"But for an angel, she's a
ho-hot mess, make you
so blind, but you don't mind."-FARKLES POV-
Two minutes early, I sit back on my chair waiting for Maya.
Time keeps passing, and she's still not here.
I'll give this girl thirty more minutes before I leave this door.
I decided to go on my phone for twenty minutes, until I see the blonde slump down next to me.
"Had nothing better to do, so I showed up." She rolled her eyes.
"50 minutes late."
"Look atcha, little time keeper." "Anyways, why do opposite forces attract?" She added on, starting off our project.
"When two charges are close enough to each other, their fields will interact. Two opposite charges will neutralize the field in between the charges, causing a net external pressure to push them together."
Huh.
My top lip dug into my bottom, wondering if she just comprehended that.
"Makes no sense to me." Maya shrugged, kicking her feet up on the table.
But it made complete sense. To me, science wasn't the only thing we were talking about here.
We sat in silence for a few minutes until she spoke.
"Hurry up and talk to me, because the last place I want to be is home."
She said something so depressing in a forceful kind of matter. I could still read she was broken right through that.
"Why not?"
"Nothing." She retorted.
Well I tried, I thought, scratching the back of my neck with one hand.
"You really don't get this project?" I amplified, trying to open up with her one more time.
She sat for a minute. "What if the forces just... aren't close enough?"
At this point, we were making eye contact.
"Well I'm sitting right next to you, so I don't know what the hell you're talking about here," is what I wanted to say.
"I dunno, just wondered if you get it." That's what I had revised my answer to.
"Well, I don't." She scoffed.
"You do, you just won't allow yourself to. Maybe because you're stubborn, maybe because you're scared, but you do. You're smart, this is more complicated than science."
"What are you saying?" She furrowed her eyebrows together.
"Uh, nice work on the project, I think we got the information pretty much down."
With that, I got up and started walking towards the door.
"Farkle, wait— I really don't want to go back and—"
"Just wait 50 minutes like I had to." I gave her a weak smile.
After those words, I left.
-MAYAS POV-
"Just wait 50 minutes like I had to."
Was he really effected by that?
All this is, is a one week project. No more complications after that, because this kid seriously confuses my brain.
I just sat there, lost in my thoughts until I pressed on my phones home button.
10:32
I'll get home in five minutes, and that'll be late enough to get ready for bed.
I start walking, until I get to my front door. I open it, and see my mom.
"Hi sweetie!" She pulled me into a hug.
"Hey, I'm kinda sleepy. Goodnight." I walked away quickly going into my room.
My mom was very distant from me. She's usually at work all day, and I'm distant from her when she's actually home.
I walked in my room, and felt my phone vibrate. It was a text from Riley.
"Where were you all day???!"
"Working on some dumb ass project with my partner 🙄" I replied.
"Was it Farkle?"
I was in shock from her reply.
"Yikes, how'd you know..."
"He asked Lucas if he had your number."
What?
"Hold up, they're friends?" I wrote.
"Best friends."
Seconds later, Riley writes another reply.
"Are you guys, like, becoming a thing?!? 😉"
"No. Never ever will we be."
The message came out just as harsh as I intended it to be.
With that, I went to bed.
