Chapter 2 ∣  Never the Same

-Eris

Who are they?

Why are they looking at me like that?

I don't know them.

I can't think.

I can't breathe.

I'm drowning.

Each thought takes moments to process. My thoughts? Lost in a sea of confusion and fear.

Ash.

I could taste the residue left on my tongue, the taste filling my mouth with each breath I drew. I can remember, my eyes shut tightly, a crimson and ebony light surrounding me, bathing my soul in a dark light.

I did something bad.

I wanted to open my eyes, but it was as though weights were pressed hard against them, refusing to allow myself to regain my sight.

There it was. I heard it first, the sound of crackling embers and before I could say a single word, the feeling of something grabbing onto me, pulling me, dragging me through fire and brimstone.

The weights had lifted, opening my eyelids felt like it was the very first time I had seen.

The warmth that had once surrounded me, dissipated, leaving me surrounded and shrouded by an icy coldness. It drew in from where I was sitting, creeping through my body.

My body?

When I breathed in, there was a slight crispness to the air, the world around me changing, seeing for myself that I was no longer surrounded by the warmth that once encased me.

That's when I saw them, three others, the two nearest me making me uneasy.

Him.

His eyes.

Those dark orbs peering at me, fangs glinting off the dull lighting from around us. I'm scared. Those eyes are dark and evil, a demon standing near me...not just a demon, but a vampire. The knowledge flooding through my mind of what this world was, startled me with the concepts weaving their way and settling into my deepest subconscious. I wanted to sink back away to where I once was, this feeling around me was odd and when our eyes had met, I screamed.

I hadn't screamed while surrounded by that warmth. I could do more now.

But why?

After the commotion, I had been led out of the room, surrounded by three women, another one had caught up to use when they had brought me out into a large room. These walls make me feel trapped.

Why am I here?

I don't know, I can't remember.

"Eris," it was that woman's voice, Lucette, her white hair tied in place into two strands, falling over the front of her chest. Her sage green eyes looked at me with what was considered concern, but why would she be concerned? I don't know her.

Human. Now I see why that man asked what I was doing here.

Looking around, I could see others walking around the large mansion, their eyes finding mine and showing confusion, just the same amount of confusion I held. Though, they were quick to dart theirs away as the women around me appeared to be silent guardians...

...though they were vampires.

"Bring her upstairs," the one with brown hair and startling white eyes instructed Lucette, "She can stay in Mav's room."
