Country Love

Chapter 6

I finish cleaning out the horses and look at my watch. Four pm. Suddenly, my stomach clenches in nerves as I realise that it's only 2 hours until I meet with Joshua again. I head back round to Grandad Rob and tell him that I've finished. He asks me to milk the cows and feed them and the sheep and then I can be finished for the day. I hurry round to finish my chores and by 4:30pm, I have completed all the jobs that Grandad Rob has asked me to do, so I hurry inside. I get into the kitchen to find Granny Pat stirring a sauce on the hob. "Hey Granny Pat, are you making dinner?" I ask. She glances over at me. "I sure am honey" She says. I ask her what help she needed and she gave me a few jobs to do which I happily completed for her. My phone rang and I looked at the screen to see Allie's number. I looked over at Granny Pat and she said "answer it dear, but dinner is in 20 minutes so be here for then". I nod and grab my phone and rush upstairs, answering the phone half way up. 

"Hello" I say whilst jumping onto my bed. "CASSIEEEEE!" Allie shouts down the phone. She goes straight into telling me about how much she misses me and how boring it is back at home. This takes a good 10 minutes. Then she asks what it's like at the farm. I tell her how empty the countryside is and how I've been working down the farm all day. Then, I tell her about Joshua. She screams down the phone at me. "AHHHH, DAMN GIRL! I KNEW YOU WERE HOT AND FINALLY A GUY IS APPRECIATING IT!!! I hope you guys start dating!" I laugh at her down the phone. "Allie," I say "you're so desperate for me to get a boyfriend that you'd say that if it was my own cousin calling me hot!" She laughs with me down the phone. I tell her that I have to go and get my dinner and get ready for seeing Joshua, she tells me to treat it like a date. I laugh at her and then hang up. I sure as hell miss that girl.

Dinner was lovely. Me, Granny Pat and Grandad Rob all sat together. Grandad kept saying how I did a marvellous job at the farm and asked if I had met Joshua yet. I told him we had met and that he would like to show me some of the town and asked them if they would be ok with me seeing Joshua at 6. They both nodded and Granny gushed about what a lovely guy he is. Granny then told me to treat the farm like home and said I could invite people round to visit and things if I wanted, just like I would at home. I excused myself from the table at the end of the meal and went up to my room to get ready. I had a shower and put my make up on and then I chose a black dress with gingham on the bust for a farmer-chic kind of look. I styled my long auburn hair into loose curls which hung down past my shoulders. I teamed the look with some black ballet pumps and headed downstairs at 5 to 6. Ready to go. 

My nerves were interrupted by the sound of the door bell. I heard Grandad Rob talking to Joshua and asking for him to bring me back by 10pm. Being the perfect gentleman, he assured Grandad that I was in good hands and he would take care of me. I stepped into the kitchen at that point and they both looked up at me. Joshua's eyes lit up as he smiled at me and I shyly smiled back. I said goodbye to my grandparents and we stepped outside. We walked over to his black jeep and he opened the door to let me in the passenger side, then went and got in the driver's seat. "So, where first?" I asked.  He looked over at me and grinned, "now that's a surprise missus" He said, winking at me. I blushed and turned my eyes down to my bag, playing with the strap nervously. I was so out of practice with talking to guys. I looked out the window and saw we were going over a bridge and with the beauty of the views and the security of knowing I had this handsome man looking after me, I allowed myself to relax into the seat...
