Once school ended, I met Carmen at her locker.
"I don't wanna just leave you here," she pouted her lips.
"Don't be a baby. I'll be on my way as soon as I get out of detention," I threw my arm over her shoulder and walked her to the end of the hall.
"Ok good. I wanna go get some food or something later," she said.
"Yeah girl. I gotcha. I'll be at your house soon."
She nodded and walked away, probably going to meet TJ or something. She's a big baby but that's still my buddy.
I made my way to the classroom where detention was being held. When I walked in, there was only a few kids in there.
What confused me was seeing that guy from the hallway incident in there. He was looking out the window, arms crossed on the desk.
I walked over to sit in the desk in front of him and sat backwards in my chair to talk to him.
He looked at me with a blank expression and I mocked his expression.
"What," he questioned.
"I though you'd be nicer."
He only raised an eyebrow at me instead of responding.
"Why don't you talk?" I asked him. He was making direct eye contact with me until I asked him that. He looked out of the window.
"I do talk. Just not to you," he shrugged. I would've taken offense to that but something told me I shouldn't have.
"Hey, don't get smart with me. I was just asking," I held my hands up in defense with a slight smirk.
"Sorry," he mumbled.
"So how'd you even end up in here?" I asked him.
"Late to class," he answered. Oh.
I nodded slightly in response before asking, "what's your name?"
"Why?"
"Why not? I've ran into you twice now. Might as well learn your name," I shrugged.
"Taylor."
"Really? I was guessing Noah or something but Taylor works too," I laughed to myself.
He mumbled something inaudible before burying his head in his arms on the desk.
Finally detention had ended and it felt like a year had passed. Me and Taylor stood up from our spots and headed out of the classroom.
"So what're you going to do after this?" I asked.
"Ok look. I know what type of person you are so-"
I cut him off. "Oh and what kind of person am I?" I smirked.
"The type who thinks they're too good for anyone else. The type that wears all black and thinks they're rebelling. The type that has issues at home so they come to school and acts out." He started. "And that's why I know we can't get along, so tell me, why do you keep talking to me."
"That's not true. Why are you so angry Taylor. I was trying to be nice," I looked him dead in the eye. I could see by the strong look he held, that maybe he's the type that has issues at home.
"It's not true? Look what you're wearing," he pointed out.
Yeah I was wearing a lot of black but that's not because I was rebelling. I just like black.
"Mkay Taylor. I don't know what you have against me but you can go now," I said, holding my hands up in defense.
He rolled his angry eyes before turning and storming in the opposite direction of where I was standing.
Is that really what people think of me? Oh well.
I called my brother and asked him to come pick me up. He's 23 and is visiting home from college.
I went outside to wait for him and the sun was extra bright.
I soon saw a black, pickup truck pull up in front of me and come to a full stop.
My brother hopped out and tossed me the keys as he came to where I was standing.
"Hey little sister," he smiled.
"Hey," I smiled back, walking over to the driver's seat.
Once me and him were settled in the car, he started talking.
"So why were you here? Extra curricular or sports or what?" He asked. Always expects the most from me.
"Detention," I murmured.
"So I'm guessing that smart mouth of yours got you in trouble again," he raised an eyebrow.
"Maybe."
I started the truck up and took off from the school lot.
"Uh Michael, I'm going to Carmen's house," I told him but it came out as more of a question.
"Yeah alright."
I drove in silence and he sat in silence as I drove to Carmen's house. Once I got there, I handed him the keys back and told him thanks for picking me up.
I could tell he was disappointed in me but I couldn't help myself sometimes and he knew that.
I went up to Carmen's door and reached for the spare key hidden under a rock near her door. I went inside and began going up the stairs.
"CARMEN IM HERE!" I yelled.
"Yayyyyy!" I heard her feet thud against the floor with every step she took as she ran towards me.
She saw me and grabbed my arm to pull me to her room. In her room, sat TJ. Up against her head board with ear buds in.
"Can we go get burgers please," Carmen pleaded.
I was okay with that idea. "TJ?"
"Yeah that's cool but I'm driving," he said sitting up from the bed.
Carmen tossed him the car keys and we headed back out.
"Alright let's go."
This gets better, I swear. This was basically chapter 1 continued. I just wanted for y'all to see Chase's relationships w everyone.
