Chapter 12

Henry was fast asleep but Elizabeth was wide awake. She had just slept with Henry, Henry her best friend, her friend since preschool, her best friend who protected her against the world and they had just had sex. But Henry was hot. He was extremely hot, hotter than Will. Shit, Elizabeth thought, Henry was in a kind of relationship with Charlie, Elizabeth’s other best friend. And Elizabeth’s dad had left her. Everything was wrong in the world. Henry’s eyes began to blink and he rose up, holding himself up with his elbows.

“That was fun” Henry grinned.

Elizabeth smiled down at him “My father is leaving us”

Henry hugged her “I’m so sorry I had no idea”

“Henry, I know this is weird thing to be bringing up after.....but what about Charlie and Will?” Elizabeth fell back onto the soft pillows.

“Totally forgot about them” Henry flopped back as well.

Elizabeth looked over to him and moved a little closer.

“There are ways to forget again” Henry smiled and put his arms around her and pulled her closer “Oh god you are beautiful”

Why do something bad once when you can do it twice?                                   

“Hey Will” Charlie had bumped into Will in the lobby of the Empire. They walked over to the elevator “Guessing the same floor?” Will joked.

“That was the elevator” Elizabeth jumped off the bed and grabbed her clothes pulling them back on hastily.

Henry grabbed clothes out of his wardrobe and pulled them on.

“Hello?” Will and Charlie called.

Elizabeth swore and ran out, her clothes slightly twisted and wrinkled.

“Hey guys” Elizabeth smiled, trying to act as nonchalant as possible.

Henry strode out behind her and grinned “Hello Charlotte, William”

Charlie giggled and Elizabeth rolled her eyes.

“My parents are getting a divorce” Elizabeth frowned, why did she keep pushing that to the back of her mind?

“Oh Elizabeth I’m so sorry” Will wrapped his arms around Elizabeth and Elizabeth smiled a fake smile. 

“Henry I wanted to ask you about Cotillion” Charlie said.

Henry could see where this was headed; she was going to blabber on until he asked her to Cotillion. And he was going to have to ask her to be his date.

“So I have my dress, my shoes, my clutch” Charlie trailed off.

“Would you like to go to Cotillion with me?” Henry mumbled.

Charlie practically jumped on him with happiness “Of course I would!”

Henry looked over Charlie’s shoulder to see Elizabeth and Will talking, Will looking as happy as Charlie. Elizabeth caught Henry’s eyes and held his gaze, exchanging a secret smile. What the hell had he done?

“Yeah I’m pretty much going through the same thing. Dad and mum are splitting up but I think he’s going to start dating that woman Jenny who works for Henry’s mum and yeah” Will said. Elizabeth nodded not concentrating on what Will was saying. She could see over Will’s shoulder and was able to see Henry looking extremely bored talking to Charlie but Charlie didn’t notice. He caught her staring and smiled at her and she smiled back. “So I was meaning to ask you” Elizabeth looked back to Will waiting for him to continue “Would you go to Cotillion with me?” Elizabeth laughed nervously “Of course I would” What had she done?
