(Again) But this time, I'm moving to Southern California! V exciting, and if you live there, we should become friends!!! DM me please, I'm a really awkward introverted 16.5 year old who needs more friends. Anyway, enjoy xo

I decide to take the weekend off, just sleeping in and getting homework done. I've avoid any texts from Asher and resist the temptation to open any social media, it'll just make me sad that I can't live a normal life like I want to.
After a little while when I finish all of my homework, I decide I need to go somewhere, get out of the house. I grab my car keys and head to the local park, coincidentally, the one where I met Mikey. I put in my headphones and just walk along the path, remembering all the fond memories we've had here. A few picnics, and a handful of times where Mikey just wanted to play on the playground.
I reach the spot where we collided, and I couldn't believe my eyes. A YouTuber that I had watched for so long was right in front of me and apologizing for knocking me down. I also smile at the memory of knocking Amy on her ass. Ah, good times.
As I walk, lost in nostalgic thoughts, I wonder what Mikey is doing.
~Mikey~
I shouldn't have hung up like that. Her and Asher were bound to happen, you don't just spend time with your hot ex-boyfriend and not feel something. I just thought that she wouldn't be over me yet. But clearly I was wrong. She's happy with Asher.
But hell, I can't just sit by. How can I not chase her? The girl I love? The one who understands me like no other, the one with whom I wanted to potentially spend the rest of my life with?
I laugh at myself, Grace would kick my ass if she heard me say that. She's avidly against rings and weddings, especially big obnoxious ones. And even if we got married years from now, I wouldn't be able to convince her to have a big wedding, the kind that I've always wanted. I'm just a hopeless romantic and she's a realist. A very angry realist.
I walk downstairs, and Luke is nowhere to be found. That's not unusual these days, he's out having fun and I'm stuck inside being melodramatic. Since when did my life turn to crap?
I look at my plane ticket that's sitting on the counter. It's too late to cancel it, and I shouldn't. Even if Grace and I don't get back together when I visit, at least we can talk face to face and get it all out. Confess our feelings and all that. I just hope that the feeling she confesses is love.
Even after all of this mess.

My parents never really understood my love for Grace. Like most people around us, they thought we were bad for each other. She was wild and erratic, and I was an aspiring football star. Two polar opposites, brought together by fate. Or a really conveniently timed cookout in the neighborhood.
We weren't even teens, fresh faced and naive. I had heard of her before, mostly gossip about her latest prank or stunt. But what most people didn't hear was the things her father said to her. I had decided to invite her to play soccer with the boys, and I knew she could hold her own. But when I reached the door, the sound of her screaming and cursing father inside made me run far away.
After that, I made it my duty to make her feel comfortable. And my first opportunity was at said cookout. Grace arrived on her bike, like most of the kids. Her bike wasn't like the other girls' though, it was black, and clearly meant for racing and tricks.
Another thing that surprised me, she didn't seem that daring until this moment. She also wasn't wearing a helmet, and pulled her hair out of its messy ponytail, whipping the mane back and forth.
I watched her, mesmerized. No girl around here acted like this, and sure as hell didn't look like this. She had streaks of red throughout her dark gold hair, and a fire in her eyes that I'll never forget. And I still see it to this day, especially when she sees a challenge.
Most of the moms thought the best thing to do was to ignore her, pretend she wasn't the craziest thing since the mayor cheating scandal. The kids on the other hand, they made sure she was in hell. They would tease her incessantly, but could be silenced with one Grace Glare. I coined the phrase after realizing that her fiery eyes had some serious power.
So I marched up to her, stuck out my hand, and said, "I'm Asher. Want to play some football? I've heard you're pretty tough." She smiled slightly, and shook my hand firmly. "Grace. I assume you knew that, but it's always good to say the formalities before tackling someone. So, let's form two teams before anyone has to leave."
And the night went on, kids playing, moms gossiping, and dads occasionally grilling. A southern evening if I've ever seen one.
Grace and I wandered a bit after the cookout was over, a habit she still has to this day. We were out for what seemed like hours, just strolling and talking, watching the stars. We ended up dating within the next few days. Rumors spread, but neither of us cared. We were happier together, and that was enough.
So when I saw her face when I brought up her ex, my heart sank. She clearly was still upset, but I couldn't tell if she wasn't over him or he had hurt her. Maybe both. But now that we're back together, and wiser, I just hope we can last this time. Because I really can't stand heartbreak, especially not by the same girl.
