Chapter 5

Everyone suddenly woke up and looked for the noise. They found the source of the screaming. They tried to calm the girl down and eventually after a few minutes calmed her to sleep. No one paid attention to me and just went back to bed. So I just decided to sleep too. The next day there was some commotion going on but I ignored it.

I headed to the field early and decided to do some stretches before Anthony got here.

              "Lucy?" someones asks.

"Yes?" I say stopping my stretches to talk. By the way she looks it seems she's staff.

"We're moving you up into a harder group. You scored very well on the courses, and your academics are really good. So you will now be in group 7. Let me say young lady. You are very lucky. It usually takes years to get to a group so high so quickly," she says and gives me a new schedule. I look at it realizing there was something new on the schedule it was called "Lab 108" but I didn't worry about it. My group is already starting and it says my new partner is someone named Mary.

I head to the other part of the field where group 7 is. "Mary?" I ask talking to a girl with dark reddish brown hair with blonde highlights, brown, dark, eyes, and limber.

"Just don't slow me down," she says.

"I'm sorry you had to be paired with someone so slow," I say giving a fake pouty look. I can admit I sometimes can't help it. We get on the field and it seems instead of working together it's more like a race. I go slow but not too slow in the beginning. Halfway through I speed as fast as I can through the obstacles catching up with her. I give her a quick smile as I pass her and I double my speed not even realizing I do. I make it to the end a few seconds before her.  "I'm sorry I slowed you down," I say.

She gives a little hmph noise and walks away. I see that a few others gathered around looking astonished. I'm guessing she's one of the best in the group. I head toward Lab 108 wondering what it is and if they messed up on my schedule.

"Um hello?" I say peeking through the door.

"Oh hello! You must be Lucy! Come, take a seat!" a lady says.

I take a seat and ask, "What is this place? I never signed up to be a doctor or a scientist in training."

"It's just an extra curricular  activity we sign up for students as good as you are!" she says excited, "I saw you out in the field today. How did you double your speed when it looked like you were going as fast as you could?"

"I don't know. I just remember wanting to prove her wrong."

"Ah yes I guess that could be it," she says.

She takes some usual medical tests, and then sends me on my way. For my free hours. I head toward the storage room. I pick up the guitar and sing one of my own songs I would sing to Buck when he begged. I don't know why but I have always liked it when they beg. It makes me feel like I can choose two different ways and I always choose the one that makes me feel good. I remember my eyelids getting tired and then black.

I wake up to find someone next to me. I'm dazed but I know it isn't Isaac. I see a knife on the floor and know if anything happens that'll be what I use. Somehow sensing the danger. I get up as fast as I can surprising the person. They look familiar but I can't put my finger on it. I see a gun in their hand as they move it up toward my face. I feel cuts all over my arms. Cuts must be all over me. The person in front of me must have done it. I realize it's the girl that screamed when I came in last night. "You did it," she says. "You killed him. You killed him," she keeps whispering. I grab the knife and before she can shoot I throw it at her head. She goes limp, but she is still here. "You killed him, but you won't kill me," she says. "You would kill a grown man, but you won't kill a young girl. Would you?" she asks tears streaming down but she has an evil grin on her face.

What I say surprises me more than her, "Beg."

She is surprised but it quickly turns back into the evil grin, "Never." I kick the gun away from her. Lock the door, and take the knife out of her head. I hold the knife in my hands then I quickly get on top of her and stab her. Over and over and over again in the head. I smile while doing so.

I leave the storage room not caring to clean up. I keep the knife with me. Knowing I will never part with it. I clean myself up. Then, the knife. I notice that dinner is going on so I know that I wasn't gone that long. Maybe an hour or two Yet I have so many cuts on my body. Has she been doing this while I slept.
