Weeks have passed since the incident. Lab 108 just seems like a doctor's checkup. I had to explain the cuts on my body. I just told her I've been falling and getting scratched by the barbed wire on the fields. I'm pretty sure she could see through my lie but didn't say anything of it.

On the field, I've been beating Mary on the fields. I was told that if I keep it up I might be moved up to group 9. Though I don't care if I get moved up to group 15 it all just means nothing to me. I've been given a job where I earn money for the military "shop" or for an extra rec time. Sometimes I meet up with Isaac in the storage room and play guitar with him. I traded a few songs we've heard or made, and that's where I will continue my story, in the storage room with Isaac.

"Where are you from?" Isaac asks me.

                 "Salem," I say.

"Isn't that a bad town to live in," he asks.

"Real bad. That's why you never see me smile. It keeps them away from me," I say.

                   "Who?"

"Everyone," I say. After some silence I ask, "Where are you from?"

"I don't know. I was an orphan for as long as I can remember. I joined this military camp when I was 10," he says.

"You've been here for quite awhile," I say.

"Yeah but I had a better life here than being forced to hide away my emotions just to survive."

"It wasn't like that. It was my choice. I lost all my friends accept one because of it," I say.

"Oh, sorry I didn't know," he says.

           "It's fine," I mumble.

"Can I get something off my chest?" he asks me.

         "Sure," I say.

"I've never fallen in love since recently," he says looking at the floor.

"Really? Is it Mary? You've been to our fields like the others I know she is the best in the gro-"

"No it's not Mary," he says interrupting me. He gets in my face and I start blushing realizing who he means. I close my eyes not wanting to hear him say it. Then I feel something against my lips. I keep my eyes close until he breaks away. "I'm so sorry. I am so, so sorry. I really am," he keeps saying. I see him sitting against the wall head in hands. I go and sit over by him.

"It's ok," I say "I like you too, but you know I won't show it," I say looking at him. "It won't work out when someone has nothing to show."

"I know," he says then he quickly changes the subject and asks, "You said you still had one friend after you closed off your emotions,"

"Yeah, his name was Buck. I don't know where he is," I say and then I lean my head against his shoulder. "I have never been so open for years. Not even to him." Then I see black. I fell asleep again.

"Hey you need to stop falling asleep," Isaac says. I realize it's morning.

"I'm sorry. I've been randomly falling asleep," I say.

"You should tune it down on the field, and eat more protein instead of skipping a whole meal," he says.

"You're right, but I'm not going to listen," I say back. I feel a sharp pain all over me. I curse thinking it was the knife I've been hiding, thinking that it must have cut me while I slept.

        "Everything alright?" Isaac asks.

"Yeah," I say. Lying because he knows about the girl who was found dead in here. I try to get up but it feels real bad. I haven't felt this much pain before. I fall down and I feel the sharp pain again.

"Here I'll go get help," Isaac says.

Without thinking I trip him and yell "NO!"

         "Ok?" he says confused.

I get up ignoring the pain the best I can and head toward the showers. Once I get there I check the pain is and realized somehow that all the cuts reopened. Last I checked they were all fine. I bandage the bad ones up and skip breakfast to head to the field.

"Hey Lucy!," says a voice that I notice is Anthony.

"Hey, joining me for stretches today?" I ask. Every now and then Anthony comes and warms up with me.

"Yup!" he says. It's quiet until he asks me, "Hey, you told me I remind you of your sister. What did she look like?"

"She has dark gray eyes, full brunette hair, your size and she is the same age as you," I say. Once we finish with stretching a staff member approaches me and hands me a slip of paper. It said: First mission is tonight. Twenty minutes after lights out, come outside. More details will be told to you then.
