All day, a bad feeling had followed her around, pestering her. It happened the night before as well. That bad feeling had kept her up at night, and she didn't know what it was. She just couldn't put her finger on it.

The only thing she wanted to do was escape it, and leave it on the surface with Society, where it belonged. All of her worries and concerns belonged to Society, nothing else.

After she got home, she wouldn't even bother about her homework. She would go straight to her safe haven and hide in the workshop with Sunto to finish her prosthetic arm that she had left unfinished the day before.

"So," Archer said, sitting beside her and taking off his book bag.

He smelled strongly of the Society issued soap that they used everyday, and it made her eye twitch.

Stupid Society. Stupid Society. Stupid Society.

And more importantly:

Stupid Archer.

It took every single inch of humanity she had in her to not throw her tech screen at him. Literally everything about him made her burst with anger.

Maybe it was the way his bangs fell carelessly into his eyes, or how he always had a vibrant blush on his slightly chubby cheeks.

Maybe it was just that he was such a damn jerk who just hung out with a bunch of other jerks.

Ray? Hmph. Don't get me started.

Oliver? A complete idiot that can't even make his own choices.

Jessica? She's so fake. Fake, fake, fake.

They're all fake.

"How are you?," he asked, and Arabelle resisted the urge to roll her eyes, scoff, and move to a different train car.

She wouldn't move, though. She was showing him a lesson in common courtesy, which was something he greatly lacked.

"Fine. And you?".

"I'm good". His voice sounded anxious.

Strange.

Arabelle wanted to say something like: "Why so nervous, Ryder?" or "Missing your friends already?", but she held back.

Being herself, and how much she absolutely hated Archer, she was kind of glad for the company. It embarrassed her to even think that she was appreciating his unwanted company.

Even if they hardly talked at all, that was fine. In fact, it was even better. She was just glad to know that someone was beside her. She was glad to feel their presence, even if they couldn't feel hers.

To everyone else, she didn't even exist, which was good.

It made her life a million times easier.

A faint buzzing noise began to fill the air, and the floor beneath their legs began to vibrate.

The train was finally leaving.

Just an hour and a half more until I can disappear from Society completely.

"So, uh, what book are you reading?".

"A book," she grumbled, trying to ignore his piercing gaze.

"What kind of book?". There was a teasing tone in his voice.

"A good one".

"Interesting. What's it about?".
