It was a Monday morning around 8 am and I was waiting for Charlie, at the police station. It was my free day but he called me, and the other deputies, an hour ago, to come to the station immediately. I was sitting at my desk when he passed, almost running from the entrance to the office area, with the governor accompanying him. He looked worn down, tired and very worried.

“Okay guys, listen up! An hour ago I received a phone call from Peter Wesker. He is a personal friend but he also works at the police station down town in Seattle. He told me there have been a lot of violent incidents taking place around the city. It started when two people were admitted to the ER of the general hospital after being attack by an unknown animal. They had bite marks over their bodies and in some cases entire parts were ripped clean off.” Charlie was disturbed as he told us this. I could tell this from his demeanor. He was nervous and wary too.

“The doctors couldn’t do anything because the damage in the patients was too much to handle. They declared them dead two minutes after their arrival.” He took a deep breath before continuing. “Five minutes later they opened their eyes.” Shocked gasps echoed around the room. “They killed everyone in their path.”

I tried to talk but he raised his hand to stop me.

“I know it sounds irrational and like something out of a horror movie, but I can assure you it happened last night. They tried to contain these people but those who tried got bitten and after a few moments they started to kill others too. Now, they are trying to contain this situation in the city, but Peter told me it is impossible. There are too many of them. The National Guard is posted at the city limits, killing those… things and helping people to get out of the city. So, that’s why I called all of you. I was watching the news and they aren’t saying anything about what is happening in the city. I want to think they aren’t because they don’t want people to panic but I don’t know…” Charlie trailed off and looked down to the floor.

At that point I was freaking out.

Bella arrived back in Seattle last night and if the situation in the city was that bad…

I stood up abruptly from my chair and the noise made Charlie look in my direction. The look in his eyes told me how worried he was. Before I could say anything, he spoke up again, this time, never taking his eyes from me.

“Peter told me the entire police department just vanished. All of them went home to their families. On my way over here I tried to contact the PD in Olympia and Port Angeles, nobody answered. I was planning to go and check on what’s happening there, but first I wanted to talk to all of you about this. The situation is bad, and I think it is going to get worse. If we make a plan of action we might be prepared to face what is coming.”
