BPOV

Second nightmare day and I was out of my mind.

I managed to get out of the equipment shed and started to walk through the gym. Everything was so quiet, I was afraid to move too quickly or breathe too hard. There were no noises and by the time I was at the door, which would take me to the campus square, I was shaking badly. I opened it very slowly and the first sight I could see was those things roaming the square.

“My God, I thought this would be easier. What can I do?” I whispered to no one in particular. Shutting the door carefully, I started to make a plan. I was at the front entrance and the gym also had a back door and two emergency exits. One of the emergency exits lead to the parking lot, near the bicycle spaces. I realized that instead of running, I could take a bicycle. I headed straight for the emergency exit and when I opened it a girl was running towards me, screaming.

“Please, don’t shut it!” She ran past me, and into the gym, before she began to yell again. “Shut it now!” And when I did, I could hear groans and people crashing on to the door. I stepped back with wide eyes and turned around to look at the girl. Her clothes were dirty and spiked with blood, while her short, black hair was in complete disarray. She appeared to be around my height, but I couldn’t be sure as she was slumped on the floor, out of breath. Her blue eyes were startling in their intensity as she continued to nod at me, almost as if she were trying to tell me something.

“God… thanks… I thought… I was going to die out there.” I looked at her and nodded.

“Oh, well, I was planning to go out that door, but I think it’s too crowded now,” I said, trying to be funny. The girl just looked at me like I was crazy, but she forced a small smile and shook her head.

“Yeah, I think you’re right. My name is Alice, by the way.” She extended her hand to me and I took it.

“I’m Bella,” I said, looking at her curiously and taking a seat on the floor beside her. “Where were you, before you came here? I’ve been here since yesterday morning and I don’t know much.”

“When everything started I was still sleeping in my dorm room. Rosalie, my roommate came rushing in and woke me up, telling me about zombies and people being eaten alive, everywhere. In the beginning I thought it was a prank, because I’m a freshman, so I didn’t believe her. I got up and took my toiletries bag and towel to go take a shower, but she wouldn’t let me out. She made me go to the window to check she wasn’t joking. And when I peered out of it, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I backed away from it in shock, and then dropped my things. I used my dresser to block our door. Rosalie was hysterical, asking me what we were going to do and a lot of nonsense I don’t remember now.”

“Where is she, Alice?” I asked her. She dropped her head and bit back a sob.

“Well, we waited until we thought things had calmed down so we could leave. But of course, we didn’t have anything to defend ourselves with. We were okay until we reached the lobby of our building. There were a lot of them in there so we made a dash for the door. Rosalie tripped, lost her balance and fell. They were on her in seconds; I couldn’t do anything to help her. I left her there, screaming at me for help. They were chomping on her like she was their last meal and I only spared her a quick glace before I got the hell out of there.”
