It wouldn't hurt to hang out with a familiar face ,would it?

The tall broad figure turned around only to find himself standing in front of me. I gasped and breathed heavily. Wasn't he in another freaking hemisphere? I managed to get my tongue to speak.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

"Nice meeting you too" he smirked.

"Seriously? Aren't you suppose to be somewhere in India, getting a lame degree just for the sake of it?

"Um..well, life's not that easy babe" he smirked again.

Sure it was, that's what the rich kids whose dads were entrepreneurs did; they paid to get into colleges and dint really give a shit about future or making money or anything related to the tomorrow. All they did was have fun and charm their way through exams and at end of the day they still had a degree and their dad's company. Naveed belonged to this category, he was a smart kid but he was as fickle as Bangalore weather.

"So what exactly are you doing here? Studying or blowing up your dad's money?"I asked him up front.

"You thought you were the only smart one? "

"Uh...isn't that a rhetorical question?"

"Well, I got into Columbia University" he said confidently

"Whoa! Good for you" I said and gave him a gentle smile. " and what course are you doing?"

"Um..well....I'm doing a masters in international business, you?"

"L.L.M in international corporate law"

"Okay, look I got to run but since we live in the same city, give me a call. I know you're new here but so am I and it wouldn't hurt to hang out with a familiar face, would it?" he took my hand scribbled something on it and disappeared.

I looked at my hand, his number was written. I immediately took out my new Iphone and saved his number. It wouldn't hurt to hang out with a familiar face, would it? even though I hate him to the core of my heart, he was still someone from home, besides he was a powerless lost Indian boy trying to find his way and so was I.

I threw my phone back into my denim pocket and walked over to the table where Emily sat.

"What took you so long?" Emily enquired.

"Just ran into some egoistic dude from home"

"ooooo! details, dear! " she blurted in excitement.

I told Emily about Naveed from what a bully he was to what happened at Nicole's party

"Is he single? " she asked as she stuffed pasta into her mouth

"Seriously? What do you see in him? He's a cocky bastard who doesn't give a shit about anyone" my face turned red.

"You know I have a strong feeling you both will end up together"

"You're a funny gal" I giggled

"Whatever. One day it'll happen and I'll be there to say, 'suck it I told you so'"

"Waiting for that day, babe" We finished eating and walked out of the restaurant. Emily decided to take us shopping.

I agreed and got into her car. She drove us to the mall and we hit the forever21 shop first, did some serious shopping and we headed back to our apartment. Emily had some admission Norms to follow so she left. I was all alone in the apartment. I unpacked my clothes and stacked them in the empty closet, placed my accessories and beauty products on the white and pink dressing table. Put some pillows on my new bed and hung a metallic circular clock on the pale wall as I moved the sofa towards the television which was hung on the huge wall in the living area, did some kitchen shopping online and collapsed on the sofa. Taking the comfort of the sofa, I switched on the television and 'Pretty little liars' was on. Finally! I dint have to wait years to watch a show. In India usually the shows air a year or so late, which I hated the most. I usually just watched the episodes online.

The harsh sunlight entering from the transparent window fell on my face waking me up. Emily made us oatmeal for breakfast. I checked out my schedule and my classes begin in two days. Emily's classes begin from today so she left early leaving me all alone.

I watched t.v for a while and video conferenced my parents and ultimately it took me two hours to realize 4 things:

1) I was a loner

2) I need a hobby

3) I had no life

4) I need to go out

So, I decided to go out and discover the city myself. I wore a blue tank top and white shorts and a pair of Toms and headed out. I had a walk around the campus. The football field was filled with really cute American guys. I walked over to a bunch of kids who were sitting in a round table in the cafeteria. "Hey! I'm Aria!" I said in excitement. The blonde girl turned around to me." Um....sorry got to go.I have some errands to run" she said in her weird American accent and walked away, the others followed. What the fudge? Kids are rude here. I miss India. I just stood there awkwardly not knowing what to do.

Only one thought occurred to me. I had to call Naveed...what? I dint have anyone else to call.

I quickly picked up my phone and dialled Naveed's number.

"Hello?"

"Um..Naveed?"

"Yeah? this is?"

"um...Aria. Listen.. I'm kinda lost here and you're probably grinning and doing your victory dance but umm......"

"but?"

"Do you wanna um hang out?"

"hahaha did you just ask me to hang out with you?"

"Don't act too hot, just meet me!"

"As you say. Where do you wanna go? I have my car with me"

"Great! Pick me up near the front entrance of NYU?"

"See ya in 10"

I hung up and walked over to the main gate which took me about 20 mins. The campus is huge.

I saw a black rolls Royce drive towards me and I knew it was Naveed.

He opened his passenger seat door, gesturing me to get in. I hopped in and he drove us into the evening darkness.

"Remember what I said at Nicole's party about you being my friend? "

I nodded not making any eye contact with him.

"I think I just won"
