chapter 3 "you'll be afraid of loosig me one day"
"Aria"
The sweet voice of my mother came hurtling into my ears.
"what?" I managed to bring my lips to move.
"honey its 5.45,dont you have a party to attend?"
Shit, the party, I tottaly forgot about it.
I slowly got off my bed and stared hard at my reflection on the rose gold mirror hanging tightly on my wall and I did not like the view.
My smooth jet black hair looked like a birds nest,my mascara was smeared, eyes puffy,Damn.
My eyes wandered on the wall clock on my room.
It stood at six past fifteen, shit.I've got 30 mins to get ready. The party starts at around 8.30 but Bangalore traffic is outrageous,so I need to start early.
I managed to make myself appearable in less than 40 mins.
I draped my body with a short black halter dress and a pair of classic black stilletoes to go with it. I pulled my long pin straight hair away from my face and let it fall on my shoulders. I pulled out a black glitter clutch from my suitcase, grabbed my car keys and walked downstairs.
My always worrying mother interrupted me as I made way to the front door.
"Aria be back by 11,call me,don't drink"
For gods sake I'm 23.
"got it!"
My Iphone buzzed again as I got in my car,I reached out for it only to find this.
Rachel: hey Aria! listen I'm not going to make it today,Family emergency.sorry, will call later.
Oh great! I hate it when people bail on me at the last moment.
I threw my phone on the passenger seat and set my eyes on the road and I was not wrong about the traffic.
I could finally spot her house.
I turned the car around the corner and parked it in an empty parking space in front of Nicole's house.
I walked towards the house, the strong smell of vodka and desperation attacked my nostrils.
I swung open the door and Naveed was Sitting beside the bar.
Its just like any other highschool party except everyone wore Armaani and shaved, the pizza was replaced by delicious Indian entreès.
My eyes wandered towards the bar because usually that's where I find people. Naveed was talking to some chick with a little too much eye makeup. The next hour I caught up with a few ol' buds from school.
Finally Smriti came. She walked over to the bar and got us drinks, mocktail for me and vodka for her.I din't mention? I din't drink as I had to take a blood test tomorrow. The music grew louder and my body refused to stay still. The night is young and so are we so we walked over to the dance floor and started dancing to the tangy bollywood music tone.
I felt someone's presence behind me,our body's where 2cm apart, my ears felt ticklish,I turned around to notice Neal Samuel was trying to talk to me.He was my senior in highschool and the most popular guy back in the day, after he graduated we lost contact for god knows what reason,we danced for a while then I noticed his lips moving like he was trying to say something but I couldn't make out what he was tying to say as the music was too loud.
"hey! want to go some place quieter to talk?" I screamed in his ears.
I don't think he followed but he started walking towards Nicole's backyard implying that I should follow.
The backyard of her house was different,This part of the house was more traditional. It was quieter, simple yet elegant, something different from the rest of the grandeur of the house.
The wind blew furiously giving me the chills,The little hibiscus danced to and fro so beautifully.
Neil and I sat on a white garden bench and talked about all the things we missed out in each others life over the years.Did you know he got into IIT*.I always knew he would go places.
Smriti came in and joined us. I was starving I decided to get some food I excused myself and got back into the house. Guess who I ran into?
Nicole Mehta!
"peepants!"she blurted out loudly.so loud everyone stopped what they're doing and decided to stare directly at us. her so called friends who stood behind her giggled.
Back in 7th grade I had pissed on myself because the bathroom was full and I had a huge bladder hence, the nickname
"hey!long time!" I broke into the fakest smile ever.
"I kno..." she was interrupted by Naveed .
I decided to leave but naveed caught my wrist firmly.
"what?" my eyes pierced through his eyes furiously
"why are you leaving?" he whispered softly
"get the hint! I don't want to talk to you both" I yelled
Oh.crap.why did I saythat?
"oh my god who asked you to talk? areyou scared we'll eat you up?"
Nicole spoke out in her nasal voice. clearly wanting to pick a fight.
"this is no highschool.I'm not afraid of you anymore, you rich spoilt spoilt *****" I protested.
and before I knew it I was in the driveway with my head resting on Naveed's shoulder and my dressed soaked in beer.
"um.look I'm sorry!" Naveed whispered into my ear.
"for what?" I asked surprised with his apology.
"um.for everything? I know I troubled you a lot but I want another chance to be friends again"
"look. I forgive you but we can't be friends. You've hurt me too much"
his sparkling brown eyes met mine again, this time the mischiveous behind his eyes was replaced with guilt.
"we'll be friends one day and you'll be afraid of loosing me one day,Mark my words,Sunshine" he shouted as I made way towards my car.
"whateves" I shouted back leaving the pretty boy all alone.
