After a full whole 24 hrs of travel time, I finally made it into the glitzy glamourous NEW YORK CITY.The morning air was chilly and the huge city was packed with people .I took a cab and went straight to NYU CAMPUS.The campus was enoromous..they're are so many buildings.how am I gonna find my way? what IF I get lost ? these thoughts were lurking in my mind. I stood in front of a huge white building which appeared to be the main building.
I ENTERED the BUILDING .my eyes scanned the room, students, professors, workers were running about in the massive hallway . I walked over to the help desk.a young man who sat behind the desk, handed me a map of nyu and marked the residential location as I asked him to do so. I got out of the building and looked around. a cold gush of wind hit my face.I felt nervous.I looked at the map while holding down my luggage. On the left hand corner of the map there was a red circle marked over that area.it read
MCDOUGHAL STREET.
. i looked up for the direction board with the arrows pointing right towards the MVDOUGHAL st. .I walked down the lane and finally found the D'AGOSSTINO HALL which was the residential section. I made my way to the lobby.I sat in a grey LEATHER CHAIR AND FILLED OUT MY APPLICATION.. I have been waiting here for an hour. I don't understand how hard it is for someone to show me my freaking apartment.the most frustrasting part was the receptionist herself. A middle-aged women with wavy blonde hair who kept telling me to wait. finally, after half an hour, she said she was ready for me. I walked over to the brown desk, her pale grey eyes met mine briefly.
"name,AGE and course" she stated "
"ARIA VANDERWAL.I'M here to do my LAW degree." I spoke out.
"hold.on"
she typed something on the computer with her super long fingers and reached for the dialler.
after a few minutes she handed me some papers that I had to fill out, a list of the curriculums provided in the university, emergency numbers etc and placed a small gold key with a tag that read "O-M 803".
my eyes examined the lobby.people were walking around in groups, laughing and talking, without caring about anyone's presence in the room.
oh.darn.how will I make new friends I thought.do I just go randomly talk to a bunch of college kids ?
"Ms.vanderwal?" the receptionist called my name.I watched her as she gestured me to a young lady, proabably in her early thirties in a beige pencil skirt and a black blouse.she must be the guide.
"hello.welcome to NYU.you must be ARIA VANDERWAL? I'M SUZY COLLIN.The head guide here and acting staff memeber.Sorry for the wait." she said as she leaded the way to my apartment.
my apartment was on the 8th floor.
"so this is your apartment and your new roommate EMILY DEAN should move in by tommorow.there's a 24-hr front desk on the ground floor if you need anything, your main buliding is the Vanderbilt hall whichis a few blocks from here.any questions?" she said at once.
"no.I'm good.thanks"
I walked in to the the furnished two bedroom apartment.placed my luggage in a corner and examined the apartment. two private bedrooms with a kitchen and a bath.I moved my luggage into one of the rooms.A single-sized bed was placed near the extreme end, a study area with storage cabinets and a walk in closet.my stomach growled.I remembered packing a club sandwich from the airport . I ate my sandwich and got back to my unpacking business but I decided to take a shower first since the flight travel had made me tired and sweaty.
The rest of the day I spent in unpacking.the empty apartment now felt homly around 5'o clock I thought I'll have a look around the campus.but before that I wrote down a list of things I had to do :
first up was pick up my schedules and lecture timings.
I grabbed my black leather pursue in one hand and the map in the other and headed out. I locked the door and carefully placed my key in the front pocket of my jeans.
first up was to pick up my schedules and submit some paperwork.
I walked over to the vanderbuilt hall, the adminstartive section.after walkng through a maze of rooms I fianlly found room no 474 .registrations and records section.after filling out a few papers I got my schedules and a bunch of other activitiy flyers.after my work was done I got out of the building.
The campus was filled with people running around here and there, the athletes surrounded by girls, the geeks sitting all by themselves.
I wanted to explore more but I was too tired and my legs refused to walk anymore so , I decided to head home.
as I walked on the empty hallway a thought occured to me" I made it". the fear of the unknown was gone,I was flying solo like a free bird and the best part was it was not all that tough.my thoughts were interrupted by a guy in a deep husky voice
"oh,so you're the one in 803?"
"I guess so"
"cool.I'm Dan. and you are?" he said reaching out his hand.
"I'm aria" I smiled shaking his hand.
"so I guess i'll be seeing youaround"
"counting on it" I say and walk into my apartment
