CHAPTER 4
Her eyes scanned the last line again, but her mind wandering off contemplating her life. Is this what after high school was like? Reading textbooks and preparing for your first lecture? She was a nerd, and she'll admit that. But it doesn't mean she enjoys that, it doesn't mean that she doesn't want to have fun.
What did she just read? She read the line again for the 11th time. Satellite cells lie beside muscle fibres outside the sarcolemma but within the same basement membrane.
Her teeth chewed the pen in her mouth as she flipped the page over. "LILY! DINNER'S READY!". Her mother bellowed out from the living room.
Her sigh escaped her lips and her eyes darted to the window. Her stomach let out a monstrous noise and she soon found herself in the dining room stuffing her face with steak and vegetables.
"We met a friend of Lily's today". Her mother interrupted the silence. "Oh really?". Her dad responded his attention onto Lily rather than his plate.
"Totally wild. Pathetic if you ask me. Won't get anywhere in life". Her mum spat with a look of disgust plastered onto her face.
"Mum! Aariana is not my friend! You can't just say that about people". Lily protested.
"Jocelyn, what would make you say such stuff about this girl?". Her father asked calmly.
"Piercings, tattoos, mini shorts, disgusting. She doesn't even know what she wants to do. University (College) is supposed to start soon. There is only 3 and 1/2 months of holidays left". Lily's mother criticized.
"Not everyone has the goal to become a doctor or engineer. So what if she wants to live freely and enjoy life and freedom". Lily defended her anger rising every minute.
This was no longer about defending Aariana.
"Girls that get too much of freedom, end up pregnant and miserable". Her mother snapped.
"My life is already miserable". Lily muttered under her breath.
The rage fumed inside her and exploded with in her. Lily pushed away from her chair and stormed out of the room.
She stomped into her bedroom and threw the door close. She hated this. She hated when her mother acted like this.
Her eyes searched around the room looking for something that would take her mind of her studies. They landed on a pamphlet on her dresser.
A three month Europe tour with sight seeing, hill trecks, and many other adventures. Do not miss out!
Before she knew what she was doing she dialled in a series of numbers and waited.
"Hello? Lily?". A voice answered.
"Marlene, I'm coming to that Europe tour". Lily spoke into the phone confidently.
"Seriously?". Marlene asked shocked.
"Yup. Count me in". Lily confirmed.
"Be at my house in an hour". Marlene commanded.
"Sure". Lily smiled.
She picked out suitcases and threw in clothes that would last her 3 months. She didn't know what she getting herself into. At that moment, she didn't give two shits.
She was prepared for 3 months of meeting new people, making friends, camp fires, parties, sight seeing, mountain trecking, rock climbing and tasting food. But she sure wasn't prepared for 3 months of competition, jealousy, friendship, betrayal, heartbreak and certainly not love. But as they say, expect the unexpected.
