i hear sirens, and my body being picked up.

"paulina, im so sorry. i didn't mean to hurt you, and now look where you are."

i shoot up, my monitor racing all of a sudden. a nurse walks in quickly.

"you're awake. she's awake!"

she calls out. multiple doctors fill in the room, many touching me.

"where's shawn?"

the nurse stops dead in her tracks. a look of distraught. she looks back up to me, sympathy in her eyes.

"honey, shawn's gone. he stopped visiting years ago after we told him there was no chance for you to wake up. you've been in a coma for 4 years."

my heart monitor slows down, i feel the world spinning. no, this can't be. i begin to rip out all the needles in me, all the monitors connected. i push through the doctors and nurses that have tried to calm me down.

"you all leave me the hell alone!"

i begin running until i found an exit. i burst through the doors, memories of me and shawn escaping the art museum. i was in a local hospital near my old house. i begin running to check and see if anyone's home. shawn's care was in the driveway. i knock on the door, catching my breath.

"be there in a second!"

i hear a familiar voice say, different if you will. gently the door opens, there stood a man that i could never have forgotten. his eyes widen, dropping the wine bottle in his right hand.

"baby, whose at the door?"

a feminine voice say, heels click against the tiled floor. a brunette with bright red lipstick along being half naked in a see through robe. i stumble on my words.

"whose this?"

the girl points at me with her red acrylic nail.

"i'm his fiancé you whore,"

i spat, her eyes widen at my response.

"you don't get to talk to her like that, paulina."

shawn tries defending her. i scoff, slapping him straight across the face.

"or so i thought. you can have him."

i walk down the steps in front of my house. walking to some stranger on their phone.

"can i borrow your phone for a second?"

they nod, handing me their phone. shawn and the brunette just stood at the doorway shocked.

"hey mom!"

"honey? you're awake?! are you at the hospital right now?"

my mother gushes, crying. i feel my eyes tear up.

"i just talked to shawn, so im in front of my house."

my mother goes silent for a few minutes.

"im so sorry, honey. we just thought you'd never wake up again. they told us you wouldn't and-"

"save it. im gonna find jasper."

i end the phone call, getting a cab. i remember his address.

"paulina? fuck everyone's been telling me you were dead."

"yeah, well here i am!"

i sarcastically say, he hugs me.

"i figured you heard about shawn."

"heard? i saw everything. what the hell did i miss?"

"he became a mess without you paulina. you may have not thought he had feelings for you, but fuck. he was madly in love with you."

i shake my head, that's impossible.

"bullshit."

"he still is paulina. over the years he's been hooking up with random girls, hoping it'd clear you out of his mind. he used to visit you every morning and stay until the next morning in the hospital. that was until the day the doctors told him there was no hope of you waking up again. it was all up to you."

i felt my heart begin to slow down. pain filled me.

"paulina!"

jasper ran by my side as i began to fall to my knees. i felt weak.

"you need to rest, this is way too much for you to handle right now."

i disagree.

"i'm fine. let me go."

jasper just held onto me tighter. i went to sit down. i looked down at my wedding ring, still on my ring finger. slowly, i slid it off, placing it on the coffee table in front of me.

"can i ask you a question?"

jasper looked at me in emapthy.

"anything."

"where's the nearest pawn shop?"
