Me: "So this is an author's note, but before some of you go ahead and blatantly disregard it, this is what this author's note is about: The next chapter in this story, Abominably Adorable, which is my favorite chapter in this fanfic, is no longer public as it once was. In order to read Abominably Adorable, you must be following me. I don't think you can even see the chapter if you're not following me.
Now, why am I privatizing this chapter along with a select few other chapters in my stories? Well, let me first say that I write because I enjoy it, but my writing becomes infinitely more enjoyable when I succeed at entertaining my audience, and I sincerely hope this book entertains you and is worth your valuable time.
So back to why I am doing this to you: I am making the occasional chapter in my books private so that you will follow me. Yes, let's be honest here: I want you to follow me, and I want to give you incentive to follow me. But why do I want you to follow me? No, it's not because I'm an attention whore--pardon my French, oh, wait, that was English (I don't get that saying). If you care enough that you just have to follow me to get access to that next chapter, then you are the kind of reader that I am interested in having--basically, I am weeding out the kind of people that I don't care if they are reading my stories or not. I am weeding out the kind of people who never vote or comment and certainly never leave their feedback on a story. I do not want to force you into following me or leaving feedback--if you don't care enough to do these things, I think I've failed as an author to capture your interest, and you should go read works from an author who does interest you. When I post something to Wattpad, I am doing it not only to entertain you--which is why most of my chapters are remaining public--but I am also doing it to attract readers to my story, The Devil's Descent, and I am also doing it to engage in friendly conversations with like-minded people and to receive helpful feedback that can make me a better writer in the future. If you are the kind of person who is not interested in reading the missing chapters of my stories enough to follow me, I don't think you're the kind of person leaving me funny comments that I love to read, becoming friendly acquaintances with me, or the kind of person leaving me meaningful feedback. I do not care which of these you are (or if you fall on some continuum between them)--if you just want to have a fun conversation about something silly in one of my stories, then I enjoy that as much as I do serious feedback from an individual who has something to say about the story but doesn't give a crap if I'm their friend or not. However, if you are not any of these kinds of people, then I don't think we're meant for each other. I will never even notice that you have read one of my stories, and you have probably never even cared that you're not getting notified when I write something new.
"Ultimately, to sum my reason up for making some of my chapters private in one concise statement: if you don't care enough to follow me, I don't know why you're reading because I've failed you as an author and you have let me down as a reader.
"As a parting comment, I would like to additionally note that I'm not looking to pressure you into commenting and voting on every single chapter of every single story. Just one comment makes my day. Just one vote makes my day. And if you don't ever want to do that kind of thing, and you don't ever want to follow me, but you still like reading my public chapters, then that's fine, too. I guess I can understand that, but you just won't be getting access to my private chapters without following me, and I won't be changing my mind on this unless someone gives me a truly good reason why I should always have all of my chapters public--it's not like I haven't thought this through myself.
"Thank you for reading. Regardless of what kind of reader you are, I hope you have a fantastic day and find a book that captures your imagination."
