Chapter 5: truth

Emily's POV
I woke up the next morning with tear stained cheeks. I got up and washed. I was thinking about last night. Whiles I was thinking I came to realisation. I'm not better than Alison. She lied about the baby. About the abortion. And I'm lying about my life. My job. The last 5 years have been a lie.

I made my way downstairs and into the kitchen. My mum was in the kitchen waiting for me. "Emily what is this?" She pointed towards the bottles of beer she must have brought in from the porch this morning. "Sorry mum. I had a stressful day yesterday. I just wanted to relax. I promise it won't happen again." She seemed satisfied with that answer. She passed me a plate with pancake on and a mug of steaming hot coffee. I had my breakfast. I looked at my mum and told her what I'm wanted to do tonight. "Hey mum?" "Yes honey?" "Tonight can we have a dinner? You? Me? And the girls?" She looked a bit skeptical but then her face turned into a smile. "Of course honey. That's a great idea. What's the occasion?" "Just Alison is upset about her dad so she needs cheering up and I have announcement to make tonight." Now she looked intrigued. I knew she wanted to ask but she also knew I wouldn't tell her until tonight. She nodded her head and started getting ready to go out. "In that case I'm just off to the store. We will have a nice Sunday dinner. I'll buy all the food and alcohol. Whiles I'm gone could you do a little clean up please?" " Yes mum. Of course. See you in a bit. Ill send the girls a text." I start climbing the stairs as I heard her leave and her car pull away from the house. I sat on my bed and sent a text to all the girls on a group chat.

After seeing everyone reply I started to clean up the house. It was already pretty clean but just needed a Hoover around and then it would be spotless.

That evening: Fields household
Third POV
All the girls were at Emily's house. They were all in the living room whiles Emily's mom Pam was in the kitchen finishing up their dinner. They were all chatting. Emily was just sat watching the interactions whiles sipping on a beer. The rest of the girls were all having a glass of wine. After 30 minutes they were all sitting around the table about to tuck into dinner when Emily stood up. Emily looked around at all the faces at the table. Then she started speaking. "Thank you everyone for coming. Now I know you are all waiting to her my announcement but that's going to have to wait until the end. So for now. It's great to see everyone again. Some more than others. Anyway enjoy your meal. Cheers." The girls and Pam all enjoyed their meals. They all moved back to the living room where they all waited for Emily to tell them her announcement.

"So thank you all for coming once again. Now my announcement is going to leave people angry and upset. Hanna. Hanna knows what my secret is. She has also known for 5 years. My announcement is that...... I never finished college. I never even got to go to college. My dad died just before I started, about a week after I left. There was also another reason but the person who involves that is in this room and I don't think she wants me to say the other out loud." Everyone looked back and forth between each other wondering who Emily was talking about. Emily just stayed focused and continued. "Lastly. Now mum don't freak out. No one die of shock. Also please no one try to kill me once I tell you this. Really quickly can someone tie my mum to that chair." Emily tried adding humour in. Didn't work. Now everyone was worried. Emily finally took another deep and what she thought would be her last breath. "So now you know I've never been to college. I went and j-j-joined the army."

Emily's POV

After I let the sentence out I just watched everyone but Hanna turn from shock to anger back to shock. My mum just went pale. I started to open my mouth when my mum jumped up. I stood my ground. I had to take whatever she was about to throw at me. "EMILY CATHERINE FIELDS. YOU JOINED THE ARMY?" I gulped and just nodded suddenly losing all my words. What she did next surprised me. My mum just walked past me, brushed my shoulder, then continued into her room and slammed the door. Well I knew I was in trouble. All my friends were still sat there with shock on their faces. Next was Spencer. She looked me in the eyes and smacked the back of my head. "You idiot. You could've died and we wouldn't have known why or where until you came back in a coffin!!! You haven't spoken to us in 5 years and then you just drop this bombshell on us?!!" She shouted at me then turned to Hanna who was now looking more scared than she did when we were all in the dollhouse. "And you!!!! You knew and didn't tell us. I'm outta here. Aria?" Aria just nodded and stood up. She looked at me with a sad smile but also with a deadly glare and walked out with Spencer. That left Hanna and Alison. Wonderful. Hanna looked at Alison and knew would be the time to keep quiet and leave. So she did just that. She hugged me and said to me. "They will get over it. Your mum and them guys are just angry and shocked. I'll see you tomorrow at the funeral." I nodded and hugged her back. After that she said goodbye to Alison and left. I didn't want to be left alone with Alison but I knew I had to hear her side. I'm not going to be like her.

Alison stood up. She made her way over to me. She was angry. That's all I could see in her eyes anger. She stopped right In Front of me. I just looked into her eyes. All of a sudden she punched me on my chest. It just stung a little bit as she continued to beat her fist into my chest. "YOU IDIOT. WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU WERE DOING? YOU JOINED THE ARMY IN SECRET??" I let her continue for a minute then grabbed her wrists and placed them by her side. She still looked so angry. "YOU LEFT ME 5 YEARS AGO TO JOIN THE ARMY? TO JOIN THE FUCKING ARMY?" She slowly started to become quieter as sobs started to leave her throat. I couldn't believe what I heard. She angry because I didn't tell her? Well she didn't tell me she was pregnant with my child. She didn't tell me she got an abortion. I found out. So fuck her. She had got quieter but then she took a breath and then continued shouting. I was getting mad now. "SHUT THE FUCK UP ALISON. AFTER EVERYTHING YOU DID TO ME? YOUR ANGRY AT ME FOR JOINING THE ARMY?" "WHAT I DID TO YOU? I DID NOTHING TO YOU EMILY. OH IM SORRY. IM PLAYED WITH YOUR FEELINGS. I APOLOGISED. WHAT MORE CAN I DO? I APOLOGISED WHEN I CAME BACK SO STOP HOLDING THAT ABOVE MY FUCKING HEAD." I just couldn't hold myself back anymore she had crossed the line. I didn't even take a breath. I just shouted right into her face with all the pain and anger I felt about everything. "YES. WHAT YOU DID TO ME. YES YOU PLAYED WITH MY FEELINGS. I FORGAVE YOU. YOU LIED ABOUT BEING DEAD. I FORGAVE YOU. YOU MADE FUN OF ME BEING INTERSEX AND GAY. I FORGAVE YOU. WE HAD SEX WHEN YOU CAME BACK AND NEVER SPOKE ABOUT IT. I LET THAT GO. BUT YOU. YOU. YOU DID THE MOST UNFORGIVABLE ACT. SOMETHING ILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU FOR. NEVER." She looked at me like I had just grown two heads. I was only getting angrier. And so was she. She stepped closer to me. If that was even possible. "NOTHING I DID TO YOU BACK THEN WAS AS BAD AS WHAT YOU HAVE DONE." Alison started walking out the house. She had opened the front door. Just about to step out. She turned back to glare at me. I glared back and as she was about to leave I screamed back to her.

"OH YEAH? SO BEING PREGNANT WITH MY CHILD AND ABORTING IT WITHOUT TELLING ME IS NOT AS BAD AS THIS?"
