Chapter 3
As I drove to Mathew’s house I thought about how my life got turned upside down within twenty four hours.
When I pulled into Matty’s driveway I hurriedly walked up the pathway trying not to trip over my own two feet since the path way was stone it had little gaps in the ground where my heels would get stuck. I waited patiently for someone to come to the door after ringing the doorbell. “Well, well, well if it isn’t Ms. I can’t call people back!” Said Daisy, Mathew’s older sister, as she opened the door with her hands on her hips. I rolled my eyes at her while giggling and then pulling her in for a hug. She’s always been a good friend of mine, but since she lives in a different state it’s hard for us to hang out. And she’s getting married to her high school sweet heart, Roger, in a couple of weeks. They have to be one of the cutest couples I have ever seen. “I’m sorry! Just a lot has been going on. But we have to catch up sometime.” I said as I walked into the house.
“We need to, with my wedding coming up everything is getting so hectic. But I can always make time for my favorite person in the world.” She smiled leading me to the living room where everybody was. “Why would you lie to her like that, everybody know , I’m your favorite person.” Roger said coming up behind Daisy and wrapping his arms around her waist and kissing her cheek. She swatted his hands away playfully, “I’m sorry, I lied Robbie is my favorite person in the world.” Just as she said the words Robbie came running down the stairs, his pale green eyes, much like my own, shinning with happiness. “Mommy!” He yelled attaching himself to my leg.
I smiled down to him. “Hey baby! Did you have fun today?” I asked referring to his day at daycare. “Oh my god mommy, it was so much fun! My, um, friend, he let me have some of his crackers! They were so good, we have to get some mommy! Please, pretty pretty please!”He begged squeezing my leg, I couldn’t hold back a laugh but nodded. “We can go tonight, so go get all your stuff.” He was gone before I could even finish my sentence.
I turned to Daisy who was staring at me with a smile. “What?” I looked at her confused. She shook her head. “Nothing, I just want kids so badly,” she said whining like a baby then turning to Roger who was now across the room talking to Mathew on the couch. “When are you going to impregnate me!” Daisy said aggravated to Roger who looked confused and then embarrassed. Making his face change to a bright red. “No one is getting anyone pregnant around here!”Mathew argued glaring at Roger then Daisy. Even though Mathew is twenty- one and Daisy is twenty- four, he still treats Daisy like she’s the younger sibling. Daisy walked towards Mathew and began hitting him on the head saying things like “don’t ruin this for me” “I’ll beat you senseless”, making me laugh hard.
Mathew defended himself from his sisters’ hits, Roger stood up and grabbed Daisy and dragged her away from Mathew, making her start to hit Roger now. When they were gone up stairs, Mathew walked over to me and gave me a hug. “Are you ok?” He asked into my hair. I nodded slowly, while pulling back slightly but still hugging him. “Why wouldn’t I be?” I smiled. He raised an eyebrow then narrowed his eyes at me, I lowered my eyes to get away from the intensity of his eyes. I laid my head on his chest. “I saw Connor today.” I said lowly. I could feel Mathew immediately tense, he pulled me back and looked at me with worry.
“What?! Did he say anything to you? Why didn’t you call me? Do you want me to go kick his face in? I will if you want me to! Layla, give me the words!-” “Matty! Stop!”I interrupted him. He stopped talking but looked at me as if to say what happened? I let out a deep breath before speaking. “He works at my new Job and we talked, he explained everything-” “LAYLA, don’t tell me you’re considering getting back with him-” “No! I just said he explained everything . But I believe him, he said that he thought his life would be put on hold because of Robbie and he wasn’t ready for it. I understand what he means but I don’t think it’s right. And he wants to meet Robbie.” I said in a small voice in the end.
