Chapter 20
Damion’s POV***
“Thanks man, it means a lot.” I thanked Travis as we walked out of the Sheriff’s department. I finally was allowed bail and Travis came down to get me, I would still have to pay a fine because of my assault on the Chief of police.
“Anytime, you’d do the same for me.” He shrugged getting into the driver’s seat of his red truck, I followed suit getting in the passenger’s seat.
While I was in the holding cell, another week passed. I wanted to know what was going on but I didn't know if I would like the outcome of asking.
“They tracked the call,” Travis spoke up as if reading my mind. My head snapped to his that was looking straight ahead at the road.
“It was tracked to an abandoned building in New York-” “How did she get from San Francisco to New York?” I asked completely confused.
“They think this wasn’t just a random act, they think this was a premeditated. Which we all kind of already knew. Anyway since she may be somewhere in New York now they’re putting more people on the case,” he paused glancing at me cautiously, “which means they’ll be able to find her faster.”
I could feel the smile slip onto my face as I thought about Layla being found.
“So when are we flying out-” “That’s the thing it’s out of our towns jurisdiction, so they want everyone to stay out of it and leave it up to them.”
I decided not to speak on it and look out the window.
I began to recognize the large estate. “Why are we at my parent’s house?”
“Your mom wanted to see you.” He shrugged coming to a stop at the end of the long driveway.
“Thanks man, for everything.” I said giving his shoulder a pat which he returned. With that I got out the car and headed up the long driveway.

“Damion! I’m so glad to see that you’re okay!” My mom gushed out hugging me tightly as I walked in through the door.
I hugged her back. “Mom I’ve only been gone for a week-” “I know, I know. But I worry. Come, I’ll make you something to eat.”
I let her drag me to the kitchen. I sat at the island while she prepared something to eat.
“How have you been holding up?” She asked nervously looking up at me from the large pot, that she threw different spices in.
I shrugged. “I just want her back.”
She gave me a small smile. “I know, they’ll get her back. Right now you need to be there for Robbie.”
How could I forget, the one person that is suffering more than anyone , Robbie. His mother was missing.
“Robbie’s been staying with, what’s his name. Marvin- Maddy- no that’s not it-” “Mathew.” I corrected shaking my head.
“I think that’s it.” She said not convinced.
“I think I’m going to go by there after I get showered.”
“No need, I invited everyone here tonight, for dinner.” She waved her hand dismissively.
