"Octavian Domitriv." Miss Katricia called my name. "It's now your turn to present to the class."
I stood up from my desk and held on closely to my paper. "Don't fret it," I told myself. "This is exactly like show-and-tell in kindergarten except it's in third grade and your showing-and-telling about your family life. No pressure."
I faced the other children in my class as every single one of stared at me with beady eyes. Well they all have beady eyes that look straight into your soul, except Chloe. Chloe Violettine. She had honey blonde hair and ever-changing eyes. Sometimes it would flicker between brown and forest green, or it could be the color of the grass fields. You would never know, and that made her special. I have a crush on her. What? You gotta a problem? Deal with it.
I took a deep breath. "Hi, my name is Octavian Domitriv and—"
Before I could finish, the class jerk Davidson Prittensen, interrupted me, "Or Octupus Face." Snickers were about. The teacher glared at him and thankfully he shut his mouth.
I cleared my throat. "My name is Octavian Domitriv, not Octopus Face. Learn how to spell Davidson." More people snickered and I swear I saw Miss Katricia's mouth twitch upward.
Feeling more confident I continued. "And today you're going to learn about my family."
"My mom is a nurse. She works at the local hospital. And my dad makes his own wine and sells them."
And yeah, all of our presentations were that boring. "Thank you." I said and was about to leave when a person asked, "What about your grandparents?"
Seriously? I really wanted to avoid that subject.
I sighed.
"My grandmother Serena knows how to play the piano and my grandmother Holly...likes to party." I swallowed. Party. Really Octavian? It's more than that, she gambles and drinks wine. She goes to illegal bars.
"Oh really? Your grannie likes to party? Like what? The disco or is she a drunk hipster like you?" David smirked.
My anger flared. "Oh, so having a stuck-up rich snob gran is better?!" I shot back. I regretted the moment it left my lips. Their family was mega-rich, like billionaire rich, and they could probably buy my dad's whole entire little business if they wanted to.
David erupted into fits of rage and was about to punch me in the face when Miss Katricia stopped him. "Enough! Both of you! Detention at lunch tomorrow, and none of you are going to have any complaints about it!"
We were dead silent. Great, thanks to David, I now have to spend a whole lunch period writing some long phrase 100 times or something. But even worse was that I had to spend with David Prittensen.
"I'm sorry Miss Katricia." I apologized. She replied it with a stern face that had only softened a bit.
"What? Why?! It wasn't even my fault, it—" He didn't get to finish as Miss Katricia interrupted him.
"Detention at lunch tomorrow and the day after! I said I wanted NO complaints!"
I secretly smiled. Or things may not be so bad, I mean my nemesis is serving double detetion."
