*** This is a long one, but just bear with me. Stuff finally starts happening. ;) ***

I gasp, and immediately Bucky pushes me behind him and holds a hand out to the guy. I notice that it is his metal hand he is holding out to protect us, though I doubt the guy knows this since Bucky always wears gloves and long sleeves when he goes out.

"You're coming with us, Sergeant Barnes," the man says in a thick German accent.

Sergeant Barnes? I think to myself. How does he know Bucky's last name, and where did the Sergeant come from?

"What the hell are you talking about?" Bucky says after a moment's hesitation.

"Follow me to the black van parked a block from here, get in, and nobody gets hurt." The man says sternly, pointing the gun directly at me as he finishes.

"We're not going anywhere with you." Bucky says coldly, in a voice I had never heard before. He steps in front of the gun, completely blocking me from the man's view now.

"Very well." The man says, and he gives some sort of hand signal. Suddenly two large men jump out from the dark alley beside us and drag us both in, one grabbing Bucky and the other grabbing me. The one who has me slams me against the brick wall and holds me there with my hands behind my back, as the other guy throws Bucky farther into the alley.

"Bucky!" I yell, scared more for him than for myself. The large man had him by a foot and at least a hundred pounds.

The first man - the one with the gun - follows the big guy and they both corner Bucky in the back of the alley, one holding a gun up to his head and the other standing ready to fight. I think this is the end. We are both going to get killed in this alley, all because these guys for some reason want to take Bucky. I'm shaking under the weight of the man pressing me against the wall, and the right side of my face burns from being pushed against the bricks.

"Just comply and we will let your girlfriend go." the man with the gun says.

"Bucky..." I whisper again, but I am cut off as I gasp from the pain as the man twists my wrists farther behind me.

Suddenly I see something flicker in Bucky's eyes, and he no longer looks like himself. His metal hand balls into a fist, and in one heartbeat he knocks the gun right out of the German man's hand, grabbing it out of the air with his other hand. The bigger man lunges for him, but he's faster. He kicks the guy back, sending him flying into the wall. He punches the big man in the stomach, and in the same movement points the gun behind him and shoots the German in the chest. The big man recovers quickly and tries to grab the gun. They both struggle for a few seconds, but with a noise that sounds like a high-pitched grinding, his metal arm overpowers the man and I hear a snap as the man's wrist breaks. He yells in agony, and in this moment Bucky takes the gun and slams it across the man's head, knocking him out. He then looks up at the man still holding me, a look in his steel blue eyes that I would compare to a lion about to hunt down its prey.

"Damn it!" the man yells, clearly as surprised as I was by Bucky's strength, and lets me go. He pulls a large knife out of his jacket and holds his ground, taking a few swings at Bucky. Bucky dodges them with ease, and then slams his head against the other guy's head, who begins to fall backward from shock, dropping the knife. Before he hits the ground Bucky grabs the front of his shirt, pulls him back up, and slams him against the wall.

"Who are you?" he yells in a powerful voice that I swear shakes the ground. The man doesn't say a word. Bucky lifts him up with one hand until the man's legs dangle uselessly a foot off the ground. "Who sent you?" he continues, shaking the man as his body convulses from both fear and lack of oxygen. "Hydra?... Speak!" The man remains silent.

Suddenly I hear sirens in the distance, and it occurs to me that someone would have heard that gunshot. Someone must have called the police. I run to Bucky and pull on his arm, trying to get him to release the man. His metal arm remains steady as it holds the man in the air, choking the life out of him. His intense stare bores into him, as if he cares about nothing more than watching this man die. I scream for Bucky to stop.

But he doesn't even budge.
