My eyes slowly open to bright white lights. I am still dizzy, and have to wait a few seconds for my eyes to adjust. I am laying on a metal table, and the room around me has no windows. I hear beeping beside me and realize there are all sorts of medical equipment around me, along with three – no, four – men in lab coats. My head is throbbing, and I try to lift my hand to hold it, then realize that they are both tied down to the table. I look down and gasp when I notice my feet are chained too. I can't move.

The man closest to me notices I am awake, and leans over me to shine a small light into my eyes. When I flinch away, he calls the others over.

The man presses a button on a remote by the table, and moments later a tall man in a suit walks into the room. He smiles and walks casually toward me. He sits in a rolling chair and rolls it next to the table I am on, as if we were just in a business meeting. I stare at him from where I lay. The room is still swimming a little, but my eyes are just beginning to focus when he speaks.

"So, you're the infamous girl, this special friend that we've all heard so much about. Sergeant Barnes' little whore."

I flinch at the rude choice of words, and the words tumble out of my mouth before I can even think.

"I am not a whore. I'm his girlfriend." I say, but my voice sounds so small. I feel woozy, and I close my eyes as the effort to speak makes the room spin around me.

The man chuckles. "What's the difference. You were nothing but Barnes' little toy. Something to keep him entertained while he tried to make a life outside of Hydra."

"No," I whispered, swallowing hard as I felt tears stinging my eyes. "You're wrong. He loved me."

"Oh he liked you, no doubt. Why else would he keep you at his place? But he could not have loved you. You see, those deeper feelings were wiped from him along with his memories. Come on now sweetheart. Seventy years with us. Do you really think he could still be a real man after that?"

"He was real... We were real." I try to argue, but then I remember the last place I had been. When Bucky had turned on me. "Where is he? What did your man do to him in there?"

The man in the suit chuckles, taking his time to reply.

"You'll be surprised to know that we didn't send that man. He was merely someone who had too much information, and was no doubt out for revenge. However, we used the chaos he created as a way to take back our asset."

"Please let me see him. I need to know he's okay."

The man smiles and stands up. "He's not here yet. Unfortunately, Rogers was able to catch him and take him somewhere secure before we could reach him. But he'll be back home soon. You know, he's doing the world a favor, being with us. We need his skills and strength. Once we have him back, we will be using him regularly again. Of course, that means erasing those two years of being MIA."

My eyes widen, and suddenly I am fully awake. "No, you can't! Please don't wipe him again!"

"Oh, don't worry, sweetheart. Nowadays all it takes is a few choice words to get him to do as we say. But we do need to cut off some loose ends before we take him back in. And apart from Steve, you are the only loose end I see."

"Wh-what do you mean?" I ask, shaking. If they intended to kill me, why hadn't they done it already?

"That stuff we put you out with must be effecting your thinking skills," he mutters angrily before continuing. "You see, your beloved Bucky seems to only have one weakness – the people from his past. Steve Rogers was the only one who could bring him back to his real state, his human state. Now, of course, we have you to deal with as well. Because apparently you are a new weakness. But we have a plan to both fix his little glitch, and get rid of both of you."

He casually slides his fingers down my arm, his eyes studying my body as he continues. "Now, we could simply kill you and Steve – because, of course, Steve will surely be coming to rescue you soon. But we have something better in mind."

I pull against my restraints, his touch making me uncomfortable as his hand shifts to my leg.

"We'll let Bucky kill you. Both of you. Because in doing so, he will have become everything he does not want to be. Once he has killed you, he will have no incentive to be human. He will willingly have the last of his memories erased, because he won't want to bear the guilt and pain of killing both his best friend and his whore..."

"Stop calling me a whore," I whisper, clenching my teeth as his hand drags up my thigh. Bad memories return from a life before Bucky, and I shut my eyes and try to block them out.

He chuckles again. "Don't worry, sweetheart" His hand falls back at his side. "We'll let Barnes have that privilege."

Suddenly the anger wells up in my chest, and I find the strength to shout.

"And how do you expect to catch him, huh? He's strong, and he has the sense to stay hidden."

He raises an eyebrow. "Why do you think we're keeping you alive? He'll come for you. His attachment to you is too strong to resist. And we are already leaving him and Steve subtle clues that will lead them to this location."

"No. Bucky will know something's up."

"Are you sure?"

There is no way Bucky will come without some sort of plan of attack, right? He loves me, this I know, but is that love strong enough to blind him from the dangers that could come from rescuing me?

I am lost in my thoughts as the man sighs contentedly and stands up, his unsettling stare finally breaking away from me. He turns to leave the room, but leans over to one of the doctors on his way out.

"Put her back under. It's going to be a couple days before they arrive."

My heart stops as all four men turn to look at me. One pulls out a syringe filled with a clear liquid and steps toward me.

"No!" I scream. "Please, don't make me sleep!"

I am pulling with all four limbs, but the restraints don't budge. The man leans over me and sticks the needle into my right arm.

"Ow! No, you can't... please..."

I am already drifting away. The room around me begins to darken, and still I try to keep my eyes open. But they become too heavy, and eventually everything turns black again.
