This case started on November 24th, 1971. On this day a Boeing 747 would leave Portland and head towards Seattle. On the plane was a man who had previously bought a one way ticket to Seattle and identify himself as "Dan Cooper". Cooper would board the plane and sit in seat 18C in the rear of the cabin. He wore a black raincoat, loafers, a dark suit, a white shirt and a black tie. He reclined and ordered a bourbon and soda.
After takeoff Cooper would hand a stewardess a letter. She disregarded it. Cooper leaned toward her and whispered.
"Miss, you better look at that note. I have a bomb."
She read the letter witch told her the same thing and ordered her to sit near him. He showed her the bomb, witch was in his briefcase. She asked him of his demands and he replied that he wanted $200,000 in American currency. She told the pilot and he was forced to land at Tacoma. The whole time Cooper was calm and collected. At 5:45 Cooper was informed that his demands were to be met. Al
Lee, a police officer, approched the plane in civilian clothes and gave the pilot a briefcase with the money and parachutes. The pilot would hand the money to Cooper and the passengers were released. When they began flying again Cooper told the pilots to stay in the cockpit. He tied one of the parachutes around his waist and jumped out of the plane. To this day we have no idea who Cooper was, why he wanted the money or where he ended up after the jump. Many belive he died and the money was lost. However, a boy did find $20 bills and raincoat in a stream nearby where the had been. This is the only unsolved case of air piracy in American aviation history.
