Hermione didn't look back once as she left the Burrow, walking and walking as fast as she could until she reached the park where she and Ron had spent so many summer days together. She sat down on her usual swing and watched as rain drops fell from the trees above her. She watched them so intently that it took her a few minutes to realise that she was crying, and it wasn't just one or two tears. Hermione wept harder than she ever had in her entire life, a combination of emotions that had been building up inside of her for so long.
She was angry and frustrated at the fact that she had been kept in the dark about such a huge thing for almost sixteen years. She could've spent the past four years of her life at Hogwarts, a magical school, learning magic with her fellow witches and wizards. It's what every child dreams of, whether they believe it's real or not.
She also couldn't believe how Ron had kept such a huge secret from her, and felt betrayed not knowing whether anything he had said to her was true or not. How could she trust him anymore. It didn't matter that he was trying to protect her, or himself now that she thought about it properly.
But on the other hand they were tears of joy. She wasn't a freak after all. Despite everything that had happened, both good and bad, at the end of this she finally had the explanation that she had craved for her whole life. Of course she had considered the possibility of magic, but had always laughed it off at how ridiculous it all sounded to her. Of course that couldn't be it she had always said. She had been wrong, and with Hermione that rarely happened.
But where did this leave her?
She finally knew the truth but did she really want to go to Hogwarts? On one hand, of course she did. After all it as every kids dream to learn magic and her desire for knowledge left her with a strange feeling in her chest, wanting to learn everything possible about this new world that she had just been introduced to.
But then again, could she really leave her whole life behind. Her parents and her friends (although none of them were really keeping her here). Leave behind her school, she had important exams coming up next summer. Did she really want to start four years behind everyone else? Would she have to start off with other kids who were much younger than she was? She had so many questions that she desperately needed answering. But maybe it was better off not knowing all the answers. Maybe it would be easier to carry on as things were, pretending nothing had changed.
But where would that leave her with Ron? If she didn't go with him then would things be able to continue with him, she doubted it. But could she just give it all up for a boy she had met a few weeks ago? She definitely couldn't, it was completely unlike her and she knew if she decided to go then it had to be for her, not Ron. He was just an added bonus.
She though over every single possibility in her head, thinking over every advantage and disadvantage of both staying and leaving, but it wasn't a decision she could make lightly. After all it would completely change her life and she had only a few days to make such a life changing decision. It was all a bit much for her to handle.
She waited so long that the sun was beginning to set in the sky and casting long shadows across the park. She stared up into the bright orange sky and looked over the town to where her house was and where she guessed that an old man with a long beard would now be telling her parents the same shocking news that he had told her just a few hours ago. She stood up with a sigh, and began to walk home.

'Hermione,' her Mother greeted her as she walked through the front door, her eyes wide. 'Where have you been? You've been out for hours,' she added with a genuine look of worry.
'I...I...' She began as she collapsed onto the sofa, not believing that she had been sat there earlier that morning with Ron. 'It's been a long day.' She finally managed to say.
'What's happened?' Her Father asked from the arm chair by the window. Hermione sat up and looked around the room, but Dumbledore was nowhere to be seen. Was he not coming after all? Had she made it all up? Was she starting to go crazy?
'I'm really tired, sorry,' Hermione said with a yawn, not wanting to have to explain everything to them tonight. 'Do you mind if we talk about this is the morning?'
Her parents nervously glanced at each other before her Mother slowly nodded her head and hermione turned out of the room and trudged up the stairs. It wasn't until she had changed into her pyjamas and was halfway through brushing her teeth that the doorbell rang. She glanced at the clock and realised that it was far too late for most people to call. Was this finally Dumbledore? Had he come to speak to her parents after all? Her questions were soon answered when she ran to the top of the stairs and looked down at the old man who greeted her with a smile. She watched as her parents, who both looked extremely confused, invited him into the living room where the three disappeared from her sight. She decided that she was better off waiting in her room and letting him explain everything to them before she went and discussed it with them. She sat on her bed, hugging her knees and rocking slightly back and forward for almost an hour before she couldn't bear it any more and went downstairs.
As she entered the living room it seemed as if Dumbledore had finished telling her parents everything, he was standing up as if getting ready to leave.
'Ahh, Miss Granger,' he said without even turning round to see that she was standing in the doorway. 'I do hope that join us at Hogwarts in September,' he said turning to look at her with a small smile.
'Well I should really get going,' he added turning to Hermione's parents and slowly shaking their hands. 'I'll leave you three to digest the news.' It was only then that Hermione realised the stunned expressions on both of her parents faces, probably a very similar expression to the one she had worn earlier. Dumbledore walked out into the street and Hermione watched from the doorway as all of the lights disappeared. She gasped and just as quickly as it had happened the lights were back and Dumbledore was nowhere to be seen.
She closed the door behind her and sat down in the chair opposite her parents knowing that this was going to be a very long conversation. With a deep sigh Hermione's father turned to look at her.
'Well that was unexpected,' he began and she couldn't help but giggle, knowing that her parents would be fine with whatever decision she made. A few hours, and a couple of cups of tea, later they had discussed every single option and Hermione had told them everything about Ron and how it came about that he realised she might be a witch. Hermione had finally made her decision and it was one that she was happy with, knowing that she would have to go and see Ron first thing in the morning.
