I heard a female scream. Ayano.
I ran into my room to see Taro crawling onto the bed with Ayano frozen in fear.
"We meet again my darling. Good thing Budo's sleeping soundly in the other room."
I grabbed hold of his hair and yanked him backwards onto the floor. It all went blurry as I launched my fists towards him, harder than I had when Shin found me, harder than I ever had.
"Ayano will never love you. She belongs to me."
"She belongs to NOBODY. Ayano is strong, kind, beautiful, caring, and overall more human than you scummy piece of shit ever will be."
I grabbed a book from the bookshelf next to me and hit him over the head with it. He was trying to remain awake and okay but he couldn't.
I shoved my foot into his neck until he started choking up blood. Then just to finish him off, I got up and pushed the entire bookcase onto him.
He was done.
And so was I.
And darkness.

***********

And light.
So much light.
Is this a hospital?
"Oh you're awake!" Ayano launched herself at me
"Where am I? What happened?"
"Before you.. before Taro died.. he stabbed you. But you didn't realise, because you were so furious. When you finally stopped attacking Taro you blacked out from the blood loss."
"Oh... Am I gonna get arrested?"
"No. But the police want to talk to you. They know it was in self defence - and Mrs Masuta told them about your anger management."
"Okay. I'm sorry you had to see that Ayano. I just.. when he was on the bed.."
"You snapped. I know."
"What time is it?"
"It's 5am. You were out cold for hours... I was really scared."
"Did you stay here all night?" I tried to sit up but felt a sharp pain on my chest, near my shoulder.
"Don't sit up. Did you expect me to sleep? How could I after what just happened and knowing you were in the hospital with a stab wound?"
"I'm sorry.. Please get some rest."
"No. Not until you're out of here." I looked down and noticed that she had been holding my hand the entire time.
"Budo Masuta? Can I have a quick word alone please?" a police officer entered the room
"With all due respect officer, I'm not leaving Budo." Ayano said staying firmly in place. I looked at Ayano but I knew no matter how hard anyone tried, she wasn't going anywhere."
"Alright Ms. Hajime-Chan, but I'm going to need you to be completely silent, okay?"
"Okay." she nodded
"Mr. Masuta, how exactly did you know Taro was in your house, and how did you find him?" it was weird hearing someone other than Ayano call me Mr. Masuta.
"I was in the bathroom when I heard a female scream. It was Ayano."
"How did you know it wasn't your mother?"
"It sounded too young to be my mother, and the scream... it was completely traumatised. Like someone was seeing a ghost."
"Alright, proceed."
"I ran straight back to the bedroom and saw Taro, cowering over Ayano. She was frozen in fear and I had no doubt on what he was about to do. Something in my head just snapped.. like a bomb went off in my head."
"I see. Ms. Masuta says you have a history of anger management problems, is this true?"
"Yes. It is. I've been keeping it under control really well for a while now, but I had to save Ayano. No matter what. I wasn't thinking straight. I just... he.."
"We understand Budo. Seeing your girlfriend with her rapist and kidnapper cowering over her is an extremely horrific thing to witness."
"I'm going to get a glass of water. I'll be back in a minute." Ayano walked out leaving a trail of tears behind her.
"Ayano!" I said, sitting up sharply and feeling an extreme pain in my shoulder. The nurse came and helped me deal with the pain, and went to find Ayano. All I could do was continue with the questioning.
"When you saw Taro.. What were his emotions?"
"I couldn't see any. He just had a blank stare. It was like he just couldn't feel anything. It was cold and dark. And it scars me."
"Okay. Budo, I'm going to be extremely honest with you and in return, you need to help us. Was Taro a lady's man?"
"Yeah. He always had girls around him. Why?"
"We think he may have killed the other girls from Akademi high. We're practically 100% sure now. At least he can do no more harm anymore."
"I wouldn't say that. Ayano is traumatised."
"We have given Ms. Hajime the chance to go to therapy, but she declined."
"Oh. Alright."
"That's all we have to ask you Mr. Masuta. If you ever need us you know where the station is." he walked out and Ayano walked back in.
"I'm sorry for leaving you Budo... I just."
"I know Ayano. I know."
"Nurse, is there ANY chance that I will be released today?"
"We can release you fairly soon, as long as you keep your stitches away from water then you can go."
"Well.. no beach then I guess. You should go without me Ayano."
"Actually, you can still go to the beach. Just don't go swimming."
"Oh, great! I'll tell the others. Ayano said pulling out her phone and messaging the group chat.
"You really think they're gonna respond this early in the morning?"
"Respond? I can do better than that." a group of people walked through the door. Shin, Kokona, Mei, Juku and Sho. They were all here.
"You got them to come here?"
"No. I just told them you got shanked and they all rushed down here." Ayano laughed
"Hey Budo." they all said
"You okay buddy?" Shin said
"Well.. As good as someone that got shanked can be I suppose." they all laughed
"Sho's been keeping us entertained." Mei said staring at him. Shin looked at me with an expression of annoyance, so I gave him a wink of reassurance back.
"So, who's ready for our Shindig?" Kokona said nudging Shin. Ayano managed to hold in her laugh and I was struggling too. That pun was awful.

Said nobody ever am I right guys? No? Well screw you too Billy!
Anyway. Where was I? Oh yeah! Sorry this was so dramatic. I just felt like Ayano needed something to give her a kick up the ass so she'd realise that Budo struggles too, but he stays determined thanks to Ayano.
When he sees Ayano in danger, he flips the fuck out - within reason.
The next chapter will be a little more light hearted - I promise!
Love you guys!
