P.O.V - Elene
I started searching through the woods, trying to keep my gaze on the light, but still trying not to trip on some tree roots. All I saw was trees, trees, and more trees, but I was determined to find that astonishing light.
" Elene, wait up!" Ethene shrieked.
" Hurry up, then!" I shrilled back.
I continued running. I didn't know what made me so fascinated by the light, but I just had a feeling that it is vital. I was almost out of breath, but I kept pursuing to the light. Finally, I saw a small clearing up ahead. I collected my pace, and suddenly stopped in awe.
" Whoa..." I said breathlessly.
" What is s-- whoa." Ethene said in awe.
In the middle of the small clearing, there was two trees. No, not ordinary trees, trees that were so high they make sky scrapers look like dolls. Not only that, they had apples on them, golden apples. On each apple, it seems to have a name carved into them.
It highly reminded me of our lockets. At that moment, I lowered my gaze to my necklace, and I ran my fingers over my name. Ethene did the same. It seemed that I wasn't the only one who thought that. What could this mean?
While wondering, I walked up to the nearest tree, settling my gaze on the lowest apple. It had some mysterious encryption on it. I pulled on the apple, leaving the stem left behind on the tree. Suddenly, another apple regrew on the tree, pushing the stem down, and taking it's place. It seemed to have the same engraving on it. I focused on the encryption once more.
" What is this writing?" I wondered aloud.
" Oh, that says your name on it!" Ethene exclaimed, following up behind me.
"What, how?"
" See, that's your name written in Greek!"
"Really? That's strange..." I whispered.
Wait... I strolled to the other tree. I picked the lowest apple, and observed the writing.
" Ethene, come here for a second." I ordered.
"Sure, why?"
" What does this apple say?"
" Well, it says Eth-- wait, it says my name!"
What could this mean? I looked at all the other apples, and saw that they each had an engraving on them. I picked the apple that was above mine.
" Aphrodite?" I whispered, wondering what that means..
" What about her?" Ethene asked.
" About who?"
" Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, what about her?"
" The Goddess of Love?"
" Yeah, in Greek Mythology! Have you never payed attention to the teacher?"
I just rolled my eyes, and continued to stare at the tree. I plucked another apple from the tree, not so far away from the previous one.
" Hephaestus?" I asked. Silence answered me.
" Hephaestus!" I exclaimed.
"Why are you screaming?" Ethene asked.
" I wan't to know who that... God is!"
" Hephaestus, was the God of the Fire of Forge, who is also the only ugly God on Mount Olympus. He is kind, peace-loving, and a hard worker."
" Does he have any relationship with..." I took a glance at the previous apple, " Aphrodite?"
" Yeah, he was married to her... do you even know anything?"
I ignored her comment, and thought about what this could mean. I grasp onto a branch, and picked my final apple. It was right above Aphrodite's.
" Ethene, last question, but who is Dione?"
" Dione was a Titan Goddess, married to Zeus, mother to Aphrodite."
" Oh, okay."
I went into silence for a couple of minutes.
P.O.V - Ethene
Elene went into silence for a couple of minutes. I then decided to look around my tree for a change. I saw my apple, at the bottom of the tree. I then looked above and saw - not two,- but one apple. I raised an eyebrow and turned the apple to see the encryption more fully.
"Athena.." I muttered under my breath.
"Who?" Elene asked like she always does.
"Athena, Goddess of the Wise, a virgin, likes olives,"
Elene shivered at the thought. Did I mention she hates olives? I then took a look at the two apples on top of Athena's one. They said....
"Zeus and Metis,"
"Metis?" Elene asked, "I'm sorry! I just don't know all these people!"
"Metis, she was the Goddess of the wise, cunning, planning, good council, and advice,"
"Ohhhh," she said.
I then looked at the trunk of my tree and saw a symbol, precisely an 'E', but in Greek. It was the same on Elene's tree trunk. In unison we ran our fingers over the symbols. Suddenly, everything around started vibrating violently. After the sudden earthquake, a platform arose from the ground and stairs - one by one - started to appear, like the stairs to heaven.
We both stared in awe for about what felt like forever. Then, I proceeded to the stairs, thinking about what all this meant. Yes, it was bizarre, but I felt like this was supposed to happen. Elene followed close behind me.
Then we linked arms and took the first step together. They were big enough for about four people to fit beside each other. Then, all the peices of the jigsaw puzzle - of what I though to be a million pieces - came together.
"Whoa..," I said astonished by my new findings.
"What?" Elene asked.
"I know what this all means..."
"What does it mean then?"
"It means that those trees right there," I pointed to the two trees below us, "are our family trees."
I then paused from the deep breath I just inhaled, " These stairs are the steps," I glanced at the top of the stairs,
"to Mount Olympus."
