Prologue

Hunter's POV

Sometimes I wish that I could run away from this cruel and unsightly world to a place that would be perfect for me. I wonder if there is such a place out there in the universe where I would be welcomed with open arms and accepted without question. "Would you be there with me 'my friend'? Would you always stay by my side through the tough times and the heart ache?" I looked over at my mysterious and quiet friend.

He always would appear when I went to sleep at night and would comfort me when I needed someone to talk to after getting beat up by those thugs that my dad used to hang around all the time. I always thought that he was so weird looking, I mean anyone with a tail would look a little weird, right? He also had these cute little ears, sort of like a wolf, that stuck out of his head and his eyes pierced into your very soul with their mysterious dark red color.

He grinned and laid back on the soft grass. "I would always be there for you, my dear. All you have to do is wish for it and you will be able to obtain anything your heart desires." He raised his hand and pointed at the night-time sky. "You see that shooting star? Close your eyes and make a wish, any wish that comes to mind."

I turned around and glanced at the star. As I closed my eyes I felt him take my hand and slowly move closer to my side. I smiled and silently wished on 'our' shooting star. I turned back to him and smiled as he brushed his pale, white hand against my cheek.

As he gazed into my eyes, I felt myself slowly begin to drift and close my eyes. "Wait, I don't want to fall asleep yet." He chuckled softly and moved closer to whisper into my ear. "Do not worry. I will be here when you wake."

I smiled as he continued to brush his hand against my cheek. As my eyes began to lose focus, I leaned my head against his shoulder and pulled him closer. "Sing me to sleep, please. I love hearing your voice."

He chuckled again and slowly began to hum the tune to my favorite song. As I closed my eyes, I heard the soft, almost silent sound of music in the air and knew that he had begun to spin his eerie but beautiful magic into the very wind around us.

As the song came to an end, the only sound I could hear was the brushing of the wind in the trees above our heads. As the darkness slowly began to take my consciousness, I felt a soft brush against my forehead and then an even softer touch. Before I could fully go to sleep, I heard a soft sigh from him as he leaned close to my ear. "I love you and I always will be there for you. I will always protect you to my last dying breath." I sighed and slowly started to fall into a deep sleep.
