Hunter's POV

Chirp.......Chirp......Chirp..........

The sound of birds chirping slowly awakened me from the darkness as I tried to open my eyes. Once my vision cleared, I saw that I was laying on the ground underneath a cherry blossom tree that was slowly losing its petals in the gentle breeze. I blinked up at the clear blue sky, watching the clouds drift by. Wait....where am I? I feel as though I have been sleeping for a long time....

I sighed as I slowly tried to sit up against the back of the tree's trunk. "Where am I?" I glanced down at the my feet and noticed that I was wearing different clothes than the ones I had worn to school. I was wearing a dark gray kimono with black trimming, loose black leggings that stopped at my calves, and a dark red sash that currently was arround my waist. I also had black sandals on my feet that were very comfortable although they looked like torture.

On my left shoulder was a black tattoo of a dragon while on my right forearm, there was a tattoo of some language that I couldn't read at all (although it looked to be Elvish). As I reached my hand around my back, I felt a sword, longer than the height of my body, strapped to my back with leather tethers. Ok, I am freaking out here. Calm down, Hunter, you are dreaming obviously......I hope.

"How in the world did I get here?" As the sakura petals continued to fall softly onto my head, I had a sudden flashback to the events as if they had just happened moments before. Wait!! I....R-riley....She got.....shot!!

I jerked my head up as a sudden pain went through my temple and caused me to grip my head forcefully. "Aaaah....why does my head hurt," I fell against the tree as the pain brought forth memories that I would have rather forgotten.

As I was about to scream out from the pain, I heard a soft noise coming toward me through the trees. I looked up and gazed at a shadowed figure that stood in the high branches of the cherry blossoms. Who is that?

I tensed my body, getting ready to dash into the underbrush when the figure slowly came down from the tree and reached out a timid hand. "It's alright now. I'm not going to hurt you," the figure said in a deep, but soft voice that could only be seen as gentle and caring. My body shook unconsciously from the residual aches as I slowly nodded my head at the stranger.

The stranger smiled at me and bent down to pick me up in his strong arms. "You don't have to worry anymore. I will protect you."

Those four simple words seemed to put me at ease as I slowly began to drift off to sleep in the stranger's arms although his voice seemed to be oddly familiar.

Unknown POV

As I looked down at the boy's sleeping face, I realized that I wanted to protect him from the dangers of the world. He seemed so innocent and at peace in my arms that I dared not to wake him from his slumber.

I turned and walked down the road toward the village as I thought of the explanation that I would have to give to the Hokage when I got back. I sighed and looked back at the boy and smiled a soft smile, "I guess you are going to be a new responisbility of mine."

The boy suddenly stirred in his sleep but soon settled back into my arms. I chuckled softly and turned back to the road ahead.
