CHAPTER 12: RUMORS SUCK

"You done?" my mom asked taking my plate that still had food on it.

"No!" I said but she took it anyway.

"Mom, I didn't do it," I pleaded.

"I don't know what to believe anymore," she said.

"Believe me! I'm your son!" I said and she went under the sink and held up the vase I stored away from the party.

"Why are my tribal vases under the sink?" she asked.

"I don't know," I lied.

"This is the fertility vase of the Umdabelly Tribe, does this mean anything to you?" she asked.

"No," I replied and she scoffed. "Who are you?" then she left me with my dad at the table.

"Great, all my friends hate me and now my mom hates me," I said.

"You're mom does not hate you she's just afraid of you," my dad said and I looked at him.

"Maybe we should homeschool you again?"

"No, not going back is worse than going back," I said.

"How bad is it going to be tomorrow?" he asked with his head resting in his hand.

"Terrible, I'll be alright though. I'll just focus on my studies from now on," I said and my dad smiled at me.

"Great, I'm proud you came up with that on your own," he said.

"Thanks pops,"

"But you're...what do they call it here? Grounded!"

I guess that's fair...

------------------------------

The next day, I entered homeroom and saw my seat next to Wade was gone leaving me to sit behind the kid that farts a lot. Great, and he started farting as soon as I sat down.

At lunch, everyone in the room looked straight at me.

"He pushed him in front of the bus,"

"Did you see him do it?"

I walked to the bathroom where I had lunch on the first day of school, old habits never die.

I walked into math, seeing two police officers and Mr. Fury.

"Did your teacher ever try to sell you marijuana or ecstasy tablets?" he asked.

"No,"

"What are marijuana tablets?"

I looked at Tony and whispered in his ear, "What's going on? Where's Ms. Hill?" I asked taking my seat but he just ignored me.

"Mr. Fury this is ridiculous, Ms. Hill does not sell drugs," Tony said.

"I know Tony, but after the allegations against Coach Logan turned out to be true the school board felt it would be best to investigate every claim made in this burn book," Mr. Fury explained.

"That book was written by a bunch of stupid guys who make up rumors because their bored with their own lame lives," Tony said.

He was right.

"Well unless someone wants to come forward and say 'I made it all up' this is how we have to handle it," he replied and I sighed deeply.

Oh no. Bye Tony, you're going to hate me forever.

"Mr. Fury, I wrote it," I announced standing up from my seat.

Mr. Fury looked at me with disappointment and led me to his office. I turned and saw Tony giving me the same look.

When you get bit by a snake, you're supposed to suck the poison out. That's what I had to do. Suck all the poison out of my life. I started with Bucky. It was living proof that the more people are scared of you, the more flowers you get.

Then there was Ms. Hill, who was living proof that no good deed goes unpunished.

I was about to hand her my quiz when she leaned forward, "Oh hi, did you want to buy some drugs?" she asked. I deserve it.

"I'm just done with my quiz," I said and she took it from my grasp. "Great, I'll grade it right now"

I saw Tony get up from his seat, I looked him in the eyes and turned back to Ms. Hill.

"I gotta say watching the police search my house was really the cherry on top of a fantastic year," she said and I looked at her in shame.

"How much trouble did you get in for telling the truth?" she asked. "A lot," I replied watching Tony sharpen his pencil.

"Well you didn't write that whole book yourself, did you tell Mr. Fury who else did it?"

"No cuz I'm trying this new thing where I don't talk about people behind their backs," I replied

"That's right, getting hit by a bus is pretty good punishment," Tony commented.

Ms. Hill then handed me my quiz. "94," she said and I smiled.

"Welcome back nerd," Tony said smirking and I looked at him and smiled.

"Thanks? Anyway, I'm sorry," I told Ms. Hill who gave me a small smile. "I forgive you. But as my personal form of punishment, I figured out how you're going to earn that extra credit," she said and Clint appeared smirking.

"Wassup"
