Chapter Seven: Unexpected.
Oh, crap.
“I’m sorry, I was busy looking—”
Wavy, long blonde hair. Alabaster skin. Detailed eyebrows. Long lashes. Chocolate brown eyes. Nina.
He couldn’t be mistaken. After the few short months that they had spent together, Ed was really sure that the blonde right in front of him was Nina Nesbitt. Although their relationship had been unofficial and very brief, Nina had been a huge part of his life. Nina was actually the reason why he got over his ex-girlfriend that he had written his debut album, “+”, for.
Nina didn’t continue her sentence anymore. The second she looked up at him, her eyes widened in shock and her lips parted slightly. She stepped backwards in reflex, and had almost tumbled down if it weren’t for Ed holding on her arm tightly. When Nina had managed to balance herself, she immediately tugged her arm harshly away from Ed’s grip, and stepped further backwards.
The blonde was wearing a knitted sweater and faded skinny jeans. She was clutching the strap of her guitar case which was hanging on one shoulder while on her one hand was a book, using one of her fingers as a marker from where she had stopped reading before Ed had bumped on her.
“E-Ed…” she pronounced his name unsurely, as if it was her first time hearing that name.
The redhead tried to reach for her arm once again, moving towards her. “Nina, you’re here—”
“What are you doing here?” Nina demanded with her arms crossed on her chest, her Scottish accent thick on her voice. “Have you been following me?”
“‘Following you’?” the redhead echoed incredulously. Ed snorted in amusement, but it was pretty visible that the blonde was in the mood for kidding around. “Look, I wasn’t following you. You even bumped on me because you were busy reading—” he pointed at the book that she was holding “—that thing.”
She blushed all of a sudden and quickly hid it behind her. Ed arched an eyebrow up as he looked at her quite embarrassed facial expression, but didn’t ask any further. “You still haven’t answered my question,” she insisted, looking over at him with her eyebrows furrowed together.
The redhead sighed exasperatedly, holding his hands up as if he was a criminal who had just gotten busted by the police. “Look, I. Am. Not. Following. You. Is it a crime now to be strolling around the streets of England?” Ed said, rolling his eyes.
Nina narrowed her eyes as she glared daggers at him. “You’re supposed to be in America now,” she stated as if Ed was a little child. She drew quotation marks in the air with her fingers, teasing him as she rolled her eyes back. “You know, the place where all the famous and talented—”
“What is your problem?” he cut her off, feeling quite irritated already.
“You are my problem.”
“Oh, please do enlighten me and tell me why. I’d just love to know,” Ed told her sarcastically, folding his arms on his chest as he looked down at the shorter woman. “It’s been—what? More than half a year before we last talked to each other?”
“Cut the pleasantries, will you? Can we just both walk away from each other right now, forget that we even stopped for a while just to waste our time having this pointless conversation, and move on? We both know that our relationship is over,” Nina hissed.
“We still have things to talk about—”
“We have nothing to talk about!” the blonde screamed, her angry eyes starting to water. “I’ve been miserable for months just because of you, do you know that? Well, of course, you don’t. You were busy hanging-out with awesome people who talk about how awesome they are and I even wonder if all of you are about to die of each other’s awesomeness!”
