Chapter Thirteen - Glee

~Vaughn's POV~

Space. I said to myself while holding my phone resisting to call Heart. This is ridiculous! Why did I listened to my cousin in the first place?

'Sir, your meeting with the foreign investors will be after lunch. Mr. Webb, our Marketing head is waiting on the conference room for finalization of the presentation for our new campaign. If you could...' my secretary Tessie knocked and popped her head on my office door.

'Yes, Tessie. I'll come.' still playing with the phone on my hand. 'Ah...have you ordered what I told you?'

'Everything's settled Mr. Green.' she winked at me smiling genuinely.

I rose from my seat and ironed my suit using my hands. 'Such an angel.' This time I winked at her pinching her cheek and made my way out of the room.

Tessie has been my secretary from the beginning of my career. She's been very supportive and took the role of my mother most of the time. She's a family to me knowing my struggles and doesn't fear to rebuke me whenever I compromised my values.

After meeting and suggesting some revisions to our marketing head, I hurriedly went to the parking space, found the bouquet on the back seat of my car and drove my way to Heart's apartment.

I heard the area in my chest heaved and my phone rang, 'Les, I'm on my way...now.'

'Yes.' she sounds enthusiastic. 'Are you nervous?'

'Why...why would I?' I can't hide my shaky voice.

'The mighty Vaughn Green is tensed!' she said cracking up. 'Relax. You're only gonna give the flowers to her. No fancy actions needed.'

'Why white flowers, anyway?' I asked curiously.

'You have a long way to go kiddo. That's for purity. Meaning you have pure intention towards her.' she said knowingly.

'Okay. Thanks for your expertise. Will call you later.' I sarcastically told her ending the call as I parked my car not far from Heart's apartment. Chill Vaughn. Convincing myself. What would I tell her? I grabbed my pen and wrote my sincere thought on the card.

I don't know how did I end up standing at the front door of her flat. I pushed the doorbell. Twice. No one's answering. I scanned the neighborhood and saw a man standing nearby wearing a robe and holding a newspaper.

'Good morning Sir. Do you know who's living in there?' I pointed at Heart's house.

'Oh yes. They're my tenants. I'm Knor the landowner.' He said flashing and sticking out his hand. I shook it.

'Very please to meet you Mr. Knor.' I expressed then glanced at my watch.

'I presumed you need to hand over those flowers to one of the girls living indoors.'

'Oh yes. But no one's there, I think.' My phone rang, 'Yes Tessie. I'm heading back now. Thanks for reminding me.'

'If you want, I can give those to them.' He scoffed at me realizing that I needed to go.

I give him a grateful look. 'Thank you very much Sir.' I handed the bouquet to him and rapidly marched to my car. As I fastened my belt, I recognized the girl who opened the door for him.

Heart. Her morning look gives me a soften pain. Looking at her innocent face and those kinky effect of the dawn to her hair made me yearn for her presence more.  The sweet smile that she displayed as she secure the bouquet on her hands is so alluring. Before I become engrossed on her look, I shuddered my thoughts and focus my head on the important meeting that I'm going to have.

I dialed Heart's number.

***********************************

'Congratulations Mr. Green. You've met the expectations of my boss. This is a very great deal for both parties.' The VP of Communications of the investors notify me as we shake each other's hands.

'Thank you Mr. Chev. Looking forward to work with you sooner.' I gave a legit smile to him and to his staff. 'Meeting adjourn.' I said after signing the legal documents.

'Way to go Sir!' Tessie exclaimed as we entered my office. I grinned at her. 'So, are we going to celebrate?' she asked expectantly.

'I'm having a dinner with...'

'Oh, with your Heart?' she cut and teasing me. 'It's okay Sir, you can instead treat us a snack.' she said laughing.

'Indeed.' I responded gleefully. I cannot argue more.
