Prologue

"Good morning, doctor Wilson." the short and chubby scientist said, greeting my tutor. He had little hair on his head, most of them grey, baby blue eyes and a big nose, were his glasses were hanging. Despite his harmless appearance, his gaze was like steel and his mouth seemed frozen in a menacing scowl.

"Good morning, Harry. How are subjects 3 and 4?"

"The usual behaviour: agressive towards the keepers and refuse to cooperate. We shall take rougher methods if this continue."

"Hmmm... I see that nothing has changed..." Dr. Wilson pondered, stroking his small brown beard. He was an average man, scrawny, with brown hair and dark eyes, but, similarly to all others scientists, he had a cold gaze and an even colder personality.

" How about subject 7?"

" Well, you see doctor...we had to chain him again..."

"And why is that?"

"He assaulted another keeper, earlier this morning. He broke several of Dr. Rosevelt bones and she is in a critical state, we're afraid she isn't going to survive." Harry said, little worry in his voice.

"Did she induce the attack?"

"No, doctor, she was just feeding him. He grabbed her arm and pulled her body against the glass wall several times before we manage to sedate him."

"Very well, we'll start with him today, then. I'll try to find the reason for that violent behavior."

Harry seemed to not understand the "we" part because he tilted his head slightly to the left and, only then, he saw me, behind Dr.Wilson. My tutor wasn't a big man, but I managed to be shorter than him. Oh joy.

"Oh, good morning, my lady. I did not see you. Who may you be?" he asked, smiling politely. His smile scared me even more.

"Good morning, sir." I greeted, in the same polite tone. "My name is Maya Sanders."

"I'm little Maya's tutor, for the next 3 years. She will learn how to do my job, including dealing with the test subjects." Dr.Wilson explained, putting a hand on my shoulder while pushing me forward, through the white and cold corridors.

We passed many steel doors with highly sofisticated security systems, bullet proof glasses and several white boards near the doors, where you could read all kind of notes. We couldn't hear a sound except for the buzz of the lights above us and the air conditioning. Everything was so steril and so...cold.

"But sir, she is just a rookie. With all the respect, she is nowhere near ready to face the subjects."

"She has to start somewhere. She is 26, she’s no child and, in matter of fact, she will just take care of the solutions that we’ll inject on the subjects. Nothing major."

I looked at them to see Harry still troubled with the words of Dr. Wilson. I shuddered, knowing that I would do alot more than that and I didn’t even know what type of drugs were being injected on the subjects. The only thing I heard from other scientists, while I was being introduced, was that they couldn’t inject anything on subject 7 because no one could approach him without being attacked.
