Chapter 7

They all had guns pointed at us, shotguns and pistols, watching our every move. Anxious and, honestly, freaked out, I gripped Kane's shirt tightly. Kane's muscles tensed and started to ripple, he was preparing himself to shift. The unmistakable sound of the guns preparing to shoot was like an awakening bell, I couldn't let them shoot at Kane. So, in a one part brave, three parts fool move, I walked out of Kane's back and held my hands out, letting them know that I was not armed. Two guns aimed at me. My wolf growled fiercely and tried to tuck me back but I was already half way between them and Kane.

"We mean no arm, so, please, lower your weapons, you're stressing him."

"He is a wolf, ma'am." One of the man said, surprised by my request. He was at least 5'9, with sandy blond hair and brown eyes, sun kissed skin and lean body. He was dressing some cargo pants, a blue t-shirt and black boots. Didn’t look threatening, just cautious.

"I know that he is a wolf but he will not attack if you don’t provoke him. So please, lower your weapons."

Sighing, the man did as I said, and so did the others.

Still growling, Kane pushed me towards him. "They have a wolf with them too." He snarled.

With wide eyes, I looked at them. The other man was 6 feet, with brown hair and brown eyes, more filled out than the other and with tanned skin. He was also wearing cargo pants, red t-shirt and brown boots. His eyes were alert, his muscles tense but nothing told me that he was a shifter. Next to him a small woman, 5'5 or so, with blonde curly hair, blue eyes and pale skin. She was dressed like me, white shorts, baby blue tank top and hiking boots. Despite her pistol, she did not look threatening, just curious. The girl beside her was a tall redhead, 5'7, pale skin and light green eyes. She was dressing some hiking pants, a white tank top and hiking shoes. She would be very pretty if her face didn't look so menacing and untrustworthy. She could very well be the werewolf. However, I instantly knew that was not her when I saw the last woman. She was a voluptuous woman, with tanned skin, 5'6, straight coppery hair and blue eyes. She was more muscular than the others, but still very feminine. She was also wearing denim ripped shorts and a green tank top. She looked like the others if wasn't the predatory glint in her eyes. She looked wild. She was the wolf.

Shooting my nose up, I looked to the blond man.

"I see that you also travel with a wolf."

"Yes, we do." He said, scratching his neck. "You're right, it's our fault, but we saw you pass and were intrigued. We should know better, right? After all, Samantha here, is also a wolf. We just wanted to meet you but this…” He stopped, looking at Kane with fear in his eyes “man just shot out of the door and startled us. Instinctively, we drew out our guns. Not the best way to meet other fellow humans." He laughed a little and I smiled. But then he looked at my arm "Your hurt, ma'am."

I sighed.

"Yes, I was attacked by an infected yesterday. Luckily, I was not bit, it's just some scratches."

Kane, that had been quiet, wrapped his arms around me protectively. He was glaring at the female wolf, who was glaring at me. Great.

"We can help." The blonde woman said, smiling gently at me. She had an easy, pearly white smile, with two little dimples that made her look younger than her probably 21 or 22 years old. She seemed gentle and caring, not menacing at all. I saw myself easily becoming her friend and that thought raised my mood a little.
