Chapter 8

The next day, after a busy breakfast, we found ourselves on the road again. Our march was steady but kinda fast. When we woke up, Kane and Samantha were a little tense because there was infected activity near so we had to eat really quickly and get out of there. As we only had one car and would be very risky to got out of there on foot - those sneaky little bastards were fast and I still had my arm pinned to my chest - we agreed that the wolves would run beside us. At first I was hesitant, I didn't want Kane to be outside with all those infected but he said it would be safer and I could feel that he wanted to run, to be a wolf for a few hours, so I didn't raise anymore problems.

When Kane shifted, all eyes were on him. He was beautiful and he knew that. He trotted to me, showing off his grey and white coat, that glimmered silver when the sun hit it, his green eyes were vibrant and confidant and he walked proudly, taking very deliberated steps to display his massive body. I was so distracted that I didn't even saw it coming. From nowhere, Kane whined to get my attention and then licked me, yes, licked me, with his big wet tongue. I shrieked and push him back, cursing at him while trying to clean all the slobber from my face. The idiot had the nerve of laughing, he along Charlotte and the boys. Kane's throaty laughter died out and he nuzzled my face, apologizing. I smacked his snout and turned away. I didn't even acknoledged his whimpers. They were all laughing when Samantha and Alana arrived. Samantha was beautiful and jealousy penetrated my heart again.

She had a beautiful gold coat, icy blue eyes and her moves were elegant and flowy. She was stunning. Kane looked at her, assessing her. I grumbled and picked up my backpack and headed to the jeep.

Kane quickly looked at me, following me like a lost puppy. I turned an looked at him, my temper flaring.

"Jeez, Kane, I can walk to the jeep by myself, I don't need a damn watchdog." I spat, opening the door roughly and pushing my backpack inside.

No sound was made and I immediately felt guilty. I was a bitch, he hadn't do anything. I slowly looked at him to see him looking at me,with a deep frown in his snout. He lowered his eyes and sat, his ears dropped.

"I'm sorry...I'm in a bad mood..." I apologized, feeling embarassed.

He turned his head to one side and his ears shot up. I laughed a little and hugged his huge head.

"You do know that you look like a puppy, right?" I said, laughing when he huffed.

Releasing him, I got in the jeep and waited for the others. Ten minutes later, Ryan was driving us on the highway, Ace, Charlotte and I were talking excitedly on the back seat and Alana was seated on the ‘shotgun’, watching Samantha that ran on her side. I was sat by the window, so I could see Kane, with Charlotte beside me.

Charlotte then leaned against me and whispered "You like him don't you?"

I gaped and looked at her, wide eyes.

"What?"

"Oh please, anyone can tell!" She laughed, elbowing me "That's why Samantha doesn't like you."

I sighed and sank against the seat. "Yeah, I kinda like him..."

"Then why aren't you together, already?" She asked confused. I looked at her like she had two heads.
