Tegan's P.O.V
London
April 2017~~~
"Tegan, your English teacher called." Louis comes into my bedroom.
"Why?" I ask.
He walks further in the room. I'm laying on the bed, on top of the covers, scrolling on my phone. He sits on the edge of the bed.
"She said you turned in a poem and she's worried about you."
My eyes widen and I try to think of something to say. I keep staring at my phone.
"Has something been going on?"
"No," I lie, shaking my head.
"What was the poem about? Why would your teacher feel the need to call me?"
"It was something I wrote in the clinic. I was so stressed worrying about my maths, I turned it in without reading it."
"You wouldn't lie to me, would you?" He asks.
"I have no reason to lie. I'm happy at school."
"Okay, I was just making sure." He says, looking at me unconvinced.
He leans over and opening his arms. We hug and I feel happiness from his embrace.
He pulls away from me, a concerned look.
"I want you to know you can tell me if something is going on." He promises.
I swallow, nodding. He stands from the bed, beginning to walk out of the room. Suddenly, he stops. He turns around quickly, staring directly at the night stand.
I turn my head, wondering what he's looking at.
The lighter.
"What're you doing with that?" He asks, gesturing.
"Um," I pause. "Just lighting a-"
"Where are the candles?" He wonders, his voice isn't harsh, curious, he doesn't suspect anything.
"I found them." I say, lamely.
He arches an eyebrow, looking around.
"Eleanor doesn't even let me use the candles, she must really love you." He crosses his arms, shaking his head disappointingly.
He walks over to the night stand, grabbing the lighter, "I'll take this, but bring you a candle one."
~~~
Later, I stand in the bathroom, looking at myself in the full length mirror. I'm standing sideways, holding my shirt up to look at the burn mark on my hip.
Suddenly, I jerk, dropping my t-shirt, Louis' reflection appeared in the mirror.
"What're you doing here?" I whisper.
"I came to bring you that candle lighter." He murmurs. "But I suppose there aren't any candles around here."
We stand in the bathroom, awkwardly close, unmoving, not speaking.
