Tension

The drive from Autumn's apartment to was a real short trip, Athan over sped that they arrive in the campus in less than five minutes. Autumn sat silent quite unsure what was her girlfriend thinking or feeling. They remained like that til they pulled in the university parking lot.
Athan tapped her thumbs over the steering wheel looking down. Autumn watched her from the side of her eye, waiting for whatever Athan had to say.
She hadn't told the vampire yet anything about Kris, she just managed to calm Athan then they left. Autumn would have to check on Kris later after her class to settle their arrangement and she would really have to talk about this with her partner.
Autumn cautiously touched Athan's fore arm whose slowly turned to face her. Her expression displayed almost no emotion as if playing a high-end poker. "Are you mad?"
She saw Athan's face smoothened and shook her head. She blinked a couple of times before answering. "I'm not." She paused and clarified, "Not at you." Athan looked at her like begging for some enlightenment.
"Her name is Kristen." Autumn started.
"What was she doing there?" Athan wanted to interrogate her but didn't want Autumn to feel offended and think Athan lacked of trust in her because that was far from the truth.
Autumn told her everything Kris said. Athan didn't looked any remorseful though or probably because she was just still playing poker. She just listened to Autumn patiently, letting the brown eyed girl's voice lull to peace of mind. After Autumn was done spilling the details of Kris's arrival, sparing her love confession, she felt guilty. Kris's story was not hers to tell but she had to if she didn't want Athan feel left out. Specially when she tell the vampire her previous relationship with Kris.
"So, she's like your...bestie." Athan said half asked half stated. Kris did not give off the impression of just being a best friend but she decided to be careful with choice of word
"Uhm." Autumn's fingers suddenly got lost at the back of her neck as she rubbed it anxiously. Hers Athan's hand remained intertwined on her lap and squeezed it. "No, actually.."
She looked at Athan awkwardly who still seemed emotionless. "What? Is she your ex?" Athan simply asked, genuinely interested.
"Not really, but."
Athan arched her eyebrows, prompting Autumn to continue. Autumn huffed, praying that Athan will not react badly now that she was going to tell her everything that with her and Kris. The thought of her next class clearly slipped her mind. "She isn't my ex but...we weren't just friends either."
"So you had some mutual feelings back then?" Athan pried, hoping she's say yes to that because if she didn't...
"No..." Autumn breathed before she spill the words, "We started off as friends to best friends then it became complicated... We used to have sex and take each other or some time but, nothing was official..."
Athan's demeanor dropped. She was shocked even though she saw it coming. She was pissed. She leaned back to her window, Autumn's hand still in hers.
It was silent for a while.
"And she will stay with you?" Athan said, obviously disapproving the idea.
"No," Autumn rubbed the pad of her thumb on the back of the vampire's hand. "I will let her stay in my apartment for a while and I'm still staying with you." Autumn compromised.
