(a/n: There are some disparaging comments concerning dwarfism. Please note that these are NOT my personal feelings in any way, merely the feelings of the people of Westeros.)

You always felt uncomfortable in these situations. Out of place. You were a daughter of Lord and Lady Stark of Winterfell and while your title was respected, a lot of times you were not. You were a dwarf and because of that, many poked fun although never where your family could hear. But you heard. You heard every murmur and every giggle. After a while you chose to ignore them, but today was going to be nearly unbearable.

King Robert Baratheon was arriving in Winterfell with the queen and their children. You knew for certain that someone was going to make a comment about the similarities between you and Tyrion Lannister and you did not want to hear it. However, you knew your place. You had to stand with your house and greet the royal family. At least you were treated better than Jon, your bastard half-brother who had to stand behind the rest of you.

As you expected, Cersei glared in your direction and Joffrey immediately made a comment about how like his uncle you were. You suppressed a sigh as you waited for them to move on. The only thing you wanted to do was get away from all those people and go somewhere quiet. As soon as your mother gave her nod of approval, you were off as quickly as your legs would carry you, ready to hide until you had to return for the feast being held in the royal family's honor.

At some point during the feast, you and Jon swiped a couple horns of wine and retreated outside only to run into Tyrion Lannister himself. "Ah, if it isn't the bastard." You could feel Jon's anger. You could see his mouth begin to form the words "The Imp" and you cleared your throat drawing his attention back to you before he said it. Jon blushed sheepishly and decided leaving would be the best thing.

"You needn't be so rude to Jon. He has done nothing to you." You were too busy scolding him to enjoy the fact that you could look him in the eye. "My dear lady, he is a bastard and he should never forget it, just as you and I cannot forget that we are dwarves. Abominations according to some," he replied coolly. "I am not an abomination!" you snarled, but Tyrion only laughed. "Believe me, my lady I mean no offense for it would not do to offend myself. I was merely stating what others think of us."

You were going to yell at him again, but you realized he was right. It is what most of the world thought of you. So instead of scolding, you smiled at him. "I suppose you are right, Lord Tyrion. In truth, it is a relief to know there is someone out there who understands what I go through. The discouragement we endure day after day." Tyrion chuckled again and nodded. It was a nice change, to be honest. Having someone to talk to that you didn't have to look up to and someone who didn't crack a joke at your expense was pleasant.

You sat outside and talked with Tyrion for the rest of the evening. He even walked you back to your chambers, but before he did, he raised his own horn of wine. "A toast, my lady. To new friends. May we forever find solace in each other and may we find humor in the faults of others as well as our own." You let out a laugh that carried through the courtyard of Winterfell. You raised your wine and repeated, "To new friends." You hoped to be able to call Tyrion your friend for a long time.
