You laughed at Jaime's lame attempt to flirt with you again. Jaime Lannister was your best friend and the two of you flirted back and forth all the time. It was how you communicated most of the time, although most people thought there was something going on between you. In truth, you were looking for someone else. Someone...different. And, from the looks of it, he'd just walked through the door of the Lannister's club, Casterly Rock.

Jaime watched as your lips upturned into a cheeky smirk and, at first, he thought it was directed at him but then he followed your gaze to the door of the club. Jaime frowned when he realized who it was. Oberyn Martell, aka The Red Viper, a sports star. The man was making his way over to the bar, confidence in his stride. It wasn't that Jaime didn't like Oberyn, but he knew what Oberyn was like.

Oberyn was a man who prided himself on his lust for love and life. He had been known to have many partners at one time, both men and women, and he never seemed to get enough. It worried Jaime to see the look on your face as you watched Oberyn come closer. He didn't want to see you fall victim to Oberyn's charms. However, Jaime also didn't want to stand in the way of your happiness, so he said nothing.

Oberyn gave Jaime a nod before turning to you and flashing you a bright smile. "Hello, flower. Oberyn Martell." You took the hand he offered and he kissed your knuckles. "I'm Y/N." Oberyn offered to buy you a drink which you accepted. Jaime kissed your cheek and walked away, being the good wingman he always was but inside, he was wary and maybe even a bit jealous. Still, he went to the other side of the room, keeping one eye on you and Oberyn until he saw the two of you leave together.

That night was only the beginning. Unlike most of Oberyn's conquests, you were not a one-and-done deal for him. The two of you ended up starting a relationship and it flourished. It didn't take long for you to fall in love with the younger Martell brother and, to Jaime's surprise, he fell for you too. Before Jaime knew what was happening, you were spending all your time with Oberyn, leaving your best friend to wonder if you even remembered him. Nearly a year passed and it wasn't until your birthday party that Jaime actually got the chance to talk to you again.

"Jaime! I feel like it's been forever!" you cried when Jaime entered the house. He gave you a small smile and a stiff hug before heading off to find his younger brother, leaving you staring after him in confusion. You didn't let it ruin your mood however. Oberyn wouldn't let you. After all, there was an announcement to be made.

The tinkling of someone tapping a glass with a spoon ran through the room, effectively silencing the crowd of people there to celebrate. "First, I would like to say Happy Birthday to my lovely flower, Y/N!" Everyone raised their glasses to toast you. Then, you gave him a smile indicating that he should go on. "Second, I, sorry... we have an announcement. Three weeks ago, I asked Y/N to marry me." The crowd began clapping and cheering, only to have Oberyn hold his hands up to stop them. "And! And last week, Y/N and I eloped!"

The noise was deafening as your friends all cheered and congratulated the two of you. Your eyes met the green ones of Jaime and your brows furrowed. He looked so angry, you thought he'd explode. He turned on his heel and left the room. You leaned in and whispered something in Oberyn's ear. He smiled at you and kissed your cheek. "Don't be long, flower." You nodded and went after Jaime. You found him in the kitchen.

"Jaime?" He turned to face you, his eyes red from crying. The sight shocked you because Jaime hardly ever cried. "What?!" his voice was sharp and demanding. Your brows rose at the tone he'd used. "What's wrong?" He shook his head. "Nothing. Go back to your husband. I'm sure he needs your time more than I do." Gazing at him sadly, you took a step forward. "Don't say that. You're my best friend."

"Am I? You certainly haven't been acting like it." You opened your mouth to argue, but closed it almost immediately. He was right. You'd been ignoring your best friend and you hadn't even noticed. "Jaime, I am so sorry. I never meant...I just-gods, I'm a terrible friend. Look, I promise this won't happen anymore! We'll have lunch dates once a week. You can join Oberyn and me for dinner occasionally. Bring Brienne. I know you like her." Jaime shook his head.

"I need time to think." With those words, Jaime left through the kitchen door so he wouldn't attract attention. You bit your lip to hold back a sob as your best friend walked away. "Y/N? Flower?" Oberyn's voice came from behind you before you felt his arms wrap around your waist. "I really screwed up, Oberyn. How can I fix this?" You turned in his arms to bury your face in the crook of his neck. "I don't know, flower but I promise to help you anyway I can. For better or worse, right?" You broke down and sobbed, not caring if anyone heard you.
