Your marriage to Oberyn had been born of the need for revenge on both your parts. It was not one of love, at least not at first, although that had come later. You wanted revenge on the one who took your parents from you and you knew there was only one way to get it. With Oberyn's help. He too was seeking revenge for his sister Elia. That was how you found yourself married to the Dornish prince, becoming a princess in Dorne. It would be years before you would get your revenge, but you would get it when you journeyed to King's Landing.
You had come for a royal wedding and instead, there was a murder. Tyrion Lannister was accused and thrown in a cell to await trial. Oberyn went to the Keep every day for the trial and one evening, he returned to the brothel that you, Oberyn and his paramour were staying in with news. Tyrion had demanded a trial by combat and Oberyn himself had offered to be his champion.
You and Ellaria exchanged a glance before looking back at Oberyn. "Oberyn, are you certain that is wise?" you asked. You knew Oberyn was lethal with a spear, but you and Ellaria both knew that Cersei Lannister would choose the Mountain as her champion. The Mountain, Gregor Clegane, was responsible for the death of Elia and your parents and he was no one to play with. You weren't certain you could bear it if anything happened to Oberyn.
Oberyn gave Ellaria a look and she left the two of you alone. "Have you suddenly lost your desire for revenge, my flower?" You shook your head and laughed softly. "Of course not, my love but you know what the Mountain is capable of and I do not wish to see you harmed." Oberyn's arm snaked around you and he pulled you close. "I will not be harmed. I will win and get revenge for both of us." He rested his forehead on yours and closed his eyes. "After years of waiting and planning, our revenge will finally be complete." You sighed as Oberyn lifted his head just enough to kiss the tip of your nose.
The next day, you stood with Ellaria and Oberyn, waiting for the trial to begin. You and Ellaria were wringing your hands in anticipation whenever Oberyn wasn't looking. You had faith in Oberyn's abilities, but it only took one wrong move and it would be over. Tyrion was brought out to stand with you and Ellaria while Oberyn fought in his stead. Just before he went out, Oberyn pulled you to him and placed a deep, passionate kiss to your lips. "Do not fear, my flower for today, revenge shall be ours," he whispered to you before turning to Ellaria and kissing her as well.
You bit your lip as you watched Oberyn start the fight with the Mountain. You prayed to every god you could think of that he would be safe. Ellaria took one of your hands in hers as the two of you let your eyes look over at the man you both loved. Everyone watched with rapt attention as Oberyn fought long and hard until, finally, the Mountain was taken down. You breathed a sigh of relief, until Oberyn started screaming at the Mountain.
You shook your head, silently willing him to stop and just kill the man. To your surprise and relief, the voice of Gregor Clegane spoke up. He admitted that he had killed Elia and her children as well as your parents. You hadn't expected him to admit that it was the Lannisters' doing all along. They were the ones who ordered it all to happen. You felt your mouth drop open in shock before Oberyn delivered the killing blow, bowed to Tywin Lannister and returned to your side.
You threw your arms around him and kissed him with every ounce of passion you had, thankful he was still alive. "Never do something so reckless again, Oberyn," you whispered, causing him to chuckle. "Very well, my love. I have gotten our revenge," he said softly, squeezing you tightly. He turned to Ellaria and hugged her closely as you steadied your breathing. Oberyn was safe and, thanks to him, you'd finally avenged your families.
