(a/n: This is part 4 of "The Wolf's Storm" series.SPOILERS AHEAD!!It's also really long.)
You shook your head as you found yourself thinking about Sandor yet again. Try as you might, he just wouldn't leave your thoughts. The last time you saw him, he was bleeding, broken and on the edge of death. You'd wanted to stay with him, you did but he sent you away. He hadn't wanted you to see him groveling in pain, but he knew you didn't have the stomach to kill him and put him out of his misery. Now, it was too late. Sandor was long dead. You cursed yourself for ever falling in love with the man in the first place because, now that he was gone, you felt you had nothing.
That's how you found yourself traveling to all the Northern Houses so many months later. You, along with your reunited siblings were going to take back Winterfell. In order to do so, however, you needed an army. That was where you came in. You volunteered to separate from Jon and Sansa to recruit troops from the Northern Houses. Most were less than cooperative, but you had managed to get a couple of houses to pledge their allegiance.
The sound of voices brought you from your thoughts. Part of you was wary, but the other part was curious and, as usual, curiosity won out. You urged your horse forward, following the voices. You came upon a small little community. "Seven save you, my lady," an older gentleman greeted you. He wore the chain of a septon. "And you, your holiness," you returned the greeting with a smile. He beamed at you. "What brings you here?" You bit your lip, unsure if you should tell him the truth.
He seemed to notice your hesitation and offered to let you stay with the sept for supper. "I couldn't impose," you told him. He chuckled and shook his head before saying. "It is no imposition. If you will not eat, at least water your horse." You sighed and dismounted your horse. Your legs and butt were getting numb anyway. "Thank you," you said. You followed the septon into the small crowd of people where, despite your protests, he handed you a bowl of stew. You chuckled and accepted, not wanting to offend him.
He grabbed two more bowls and lead you to where a tall man was seated by himself, his back to you. You were observing him as you talked to the septon. You watched as he picked his head up when you spoke. When you moved to stand in front of the man, you nearly dropped your bowl. "Seven Hells," you heard him whisper at the same time you said, "Sandor." There was a thick silence between the three of you for a moment before the septon cleared his throat.
"I will give you both some privacy," he said, handing Sandor a bowl and leaving the two of you alone. "What are ya doing here?" he rasped. You fought back tears upon hearing his voice again after so long. You couldn't answer his question. You merely looked him over, unable to believe your eyes. He was cleaner, looked happier and somewhat...peaceful, but it was definitely Sandor. This was the man you thought dead. After another stretch of silence you said the only thing you could think of.
"You sent me away..." He glanced at you, blinking rapidly. That was not what he expected you to say. "I did. I wasn't good for ya." You sat down on the log across from him and took a bite of stew. Nothing was said as the two of you ate, but Sandor noticed you stealing glances at him. You finished your meal in complete silence until the septon returned, holding the reins on your horse. "There's river just over there where you can water your horse, my lady," he told you before taking your bowl and leaving again.
You stood, grabbed the reins and walked in the direction the septon indicated. Sandor groaned and got up to follow you. Now that you were truly alone with him, you rounded on Sandor. "You made me leave! You sent me away!" you cried, willing your tears to stay down. You refused to cry in front of him again. "I told ya ta find some fancy lord stupid enough to love ya, marry and have his heirs," was all he said. You scoffed at him. "Are you going to stand there and say that you did what was best for me? Because you really didn't. I loved you, dammit!"
