"OW!"
"Stop moving! It'll hurt a lot less if you stay still, you sorry lizard!"
Odahviing growled lowly, mumbling sassy comments under his breath. Those murmurs were cut off once again as another arrow was roughly pulled free from his pelt. The red dragon roared from the sting.
"I told you to be careful!"
The male spat, craning his neck to glare at his mate. The (scale color) scaled she-dragon wasn't phased by his tone, she found this quite amusing. However, (Name) wasn't pleased by the fact Odahviing got himself into this condition. He had gone out hunting, and when he returned after five hours he was littered with arrows. He had gotten into a scuffle with Windhelm guards, again. (Name) had told the red beast to be more careful, since her belly was swollen with eggs. She needed him to help her survive, since life had gotten even harder. She also didn't want him to get critically injured, she wanted her mate to help raise their children and also for Odahviing to be by her side. To sum it up, (Name) couldn't live without him.
As punishment for attacking, (Name) wasn't very gentle with removing the arrows. The weapons were made of pure wood, so they were nothing but splinters to dragons. The male was lucky that he caught the guards during training, when they didn't use real weapons. So, (Name) didn't have to worry about seriously harming her mate while pulling them out.
Another wooden arrow was pulled free from Odahviing's shoulder, causing him to wince at the depth of its piercing. Light trickles of blood gathered around the tiny wounds, nothing to worry much about. As (Name) pulled the arrows out, she would gently lick each puncture.
"At least you have the heart to kiss them better."
Her snarky mate commented.
A sharp glare made him close his muzzle.
(Name) sighed, gently resting her forehead against Odahviing's powerful back. Her body shook lightly as she breathed in his scent. She wanted to keep that smell there, the scent of life. Tiny tears gathered at her shut eyelids, threatening to spill out.
A soft sniffle came from her, getting the red dragon's attention. Odahviing looked behind himself, gazing softly at his mate.
"Hey.. I didn't mean to sound rude."
He whispered, gently brushing his nose against her cheek in an attempt to wipe her tears away.
"I'm not crying at that.."
The (scale color) colored female hissed, clenching her jaws. Images of her mate, torn apart and dead, filled her head. She couldn't stand it, and the trigger caused her body to shake more violently. She knew about the Dragonborn, and how they would call Odahviing to aid them. It was for the greater good, but (Name) couldn't help but despise the 'Chosen One'. Odahviing was summoned often, as if the Dragonborn merely wanted a break from battle. Odahviing wasn't happy to aid the Dragonborn like that, but a deal was a deal. Help the Dragonborn, or be turned in as a puppet for experiments.
Odahviing's eyes widened in surprise. Just a moment ago, his mate was pulling splinters from his pelt. Now, she was crying into his scales.
"H-hey (Name)-"
"It's not fair!"
"Wha-?"
(Name) slammed her wings against the ground, cracking the cave floor.
"YOU'RE BEING USED AGAINST YOUR WILL! THE DRAGONBORN DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOUR WELL BEING, YOU'RE JUST A MEAT SHIELD!"
(Name) roared, tears now spilling from her (eye color) eyes. Odahviing's breath caught in his throat, shocked by her words.
"Hey... Shhhh."
Odahviing whispered, embracing his mate. She immediately relaxed, falling limp in his wings.
"The Dragonborn is unfair, yes, but will not allow me to die. I will return, every time, and sleep by your side. I will be the proper fatherly figure for our young, and I will love you until my last breath. And I plan on living for centuries to come."
(Name) snuggled closer, nuzzling his chest.
"Thank you."
