I ran down for 2 blocks and it only took minutes to reach his house. I pounded lightly on the door but remembered the doorbell. I rang it and a women opened it, she had short chin length brown hair and she was dressed casually but neat. "Hello, what do you need?" She asked me politely and I felt extremely nervous but managed to choke out, "...Mom-Home-....Light, please!" She was confused but turned around and called out, "Light? A girl is here to see you." I heard Light's voice say, "I'll be down in a minute." A couple of seconds passed and I saw his figure in the door and I squeaked, "Please...help me...."

He took me inside and I felt like passing out. "Do you need anything dear?" The woman, obviously Light's mother, touched my shoulder kindly and I flinched back, but answered quietly, "....pencil, paper....." I sat out there couch with Light next to me and his mother and sister across from me. I hastily scribbled on the paper. My body trembled and I held the paper in front of my body nervously, as if to block an attack.

"Please help me. My mother disappeared and I can't find her. She has an Agoraphobia. She shouldn't be out." Light read out loud and his sister asked, "Agoraphobia?" Light folded his arms and stood up from the couch, "Agoraphobia is when you are too scared to leave the house." His sister stared at my face and so did his mom and I felt extremely uncomfortable. "We should call the police then." His mom chimed in but Light shook his head, "No, they won't file a report until 24 hours pass." I thought hard but my mind was dizzy from anxiety.

"Sorry to interrupt your thoughts but I never got your name?" I looked up from my feet and said, " Saitō Ha..na..ko.." I whimpered and the small girl smiled at me and held out a hand, "Yagami Sayu, nice to meet you." I timidity put out my hand and she shook it up and down, "Wow! You're hand is so soft. Hey, are you Light's girlfriend?" I blushed deeply at the thought of a boyfriend and said, "N-no!" I felt like crying. Mom never got me a phone yet even though I was in HighSchool. I wish I had one now.

"Here sweetie, take this, you look pale

"Here sweetie, take this, you look pale." I looked up and saw Light's mother with some tea. When did she leave to make the tea? "So, how do you know my brother?" Sayu asked me leaning forward but Light heard her and said, "Some men were harassing her, so I stepped in. I walk her home from school now." Sayu's eyes were now wide and she said, "Really?! That's just like a boyfriend and girlfriend. You two would be so cute together." Her mother looked over to her sternly and said, "Stop bugging Hanako, she is probably having a tough time right now." Sayu sighed and got up from the couch saying, "Doesn't Light have cram school anyways." Her mother said, "He is skipping today because of our unexpected guest. You are welcome to stay with us tonight if you need to." I nodded and stood up slowly from the couch and bowed to Light's mother, "Thank You, Ma'am." I said using the calmest voice I could muster. She smiled and said, "Don't call me Ma'am please, call me Sachiko."

I nodded and said, "Thank You, Sachiko." I sat down and so did Light. It was pretty awkward and It was all my fault. I heard a voice yelling outside the house. "Hanako!" I immediately recognized it as my mother's voice and I spirited to the door and opened it calling, "MOM!" She turned to me and smiled happily, she had a cake in her arms. "Where were you?" I asked hugging her as she carefully but the cake down, "I went to the grocery store to buy cake." She replied and I frowned, "You never leave the house." Her smiled faded slightly and she said nervously, "Well, after seeing you with that guy, it made me realize that you are growing up. So, I thought I would grew up a little too and meet this guy."

"Mom, it's not like that..." I trailed off and she elbowed me saying, "Of course it's not." She winked at me and I blushed feverishly. "No, mom, really-" I tried to say but she cut me off, "Oh, look he is here!" She skirted around me and walked up to Light with a bow. She held out the cake saying, "Thank You for saving my daughter, please accept this gift as a thank you." He rubbed the back of his head saying, "It was nothing, really, I was just doing the right thing." He took the cake though and I saw Sachiko at the door. "Ah! You must be Mrs. Saitō. Please come in." My mom scurried over and entered the house. "Aren't you coming?" I looked up at Light and nodded at him.

I re-entered the house and to my horror my mom was surrounded by Sayu and Sachiko. "You're daughter was so worried about you, she is really quite a sweet girl." Sachiko completed and my mother laughed saying, "She is as sweet as she is intelligent." Sayu puffed out her chest saying, "My brother, Light is really smart too. He is ranked 1st NationWide." Everyone was silent at this and my mother looked over to me as I studied Light. "Is that so? My little Hanako is ranked 2nd. I bet you two were made for each other." My mom laughed and Sachiko looked relieved at her reaction, "I thought you might have been mad."

"What, no. I don't pressure Hanako, she is too precious to me for me to constantly yell at her to do better. " I flushed a deep red again, why I am so nervous? "Besides, I'm just happy she made a friend. Especially a guy friend. She has been sacred of guys since 1st grade." My mother was spilling all of my secrets in front of a family I barely know. I covered my face. I was happy she was out of the house but why now?

My mother and I drank tea with the family and soon we left. Light was very quite but politely joined in and out of conversation at intervals. When we left, my mother looked around happily. When we got home, I ran upstairs and jumped on my bed. I looked to the wall from my warm pillow and saw a calendar,

It was November 29th.

I found it interesting that the creator of this story mentioned that if Light never found the death note, he would have become a detective and would work along side L as partners.
