1 year, 4 months before the accident

It was so sudden. No one expected it to happen, but it did.

Yet everyone knew it was coming, he was old and he had lived his life, but it still hurt like a bitch.

My grandpa's funeral was one of the worst days of my life.

All I really remember about that day was hanging out with Luke when I got a call from my mom who was crying her eyes out. I was just glad to have Luke through all of it.

"Luke! Stop it tickles!" I giggled as he kept tickling my stomach. He just smiled and pinned my hands down with one of his own. We were both laying on his bed while he continued to torture me.

"Make me." He smirked, I rolled my eyes and leaned forward to capture his lips with mine. He let my hands go, resting his on my waist.

He started to slip his hands up my shirt, it was just starting to get heated when my phone started ringing. I groaned but he didn't stop kissing me.

"Leave it. You can call them back later." Luke grumbled, starting to kiss down my neck slowly. My eyes closed as I gripped his hair.

"L-Luke that's my mums ring tone, what if it's something important?" I ask him, trying not to moan, because if I did he definitely wouldn't let me go.

"She's probably just wondering when we're coming to visit again." Luke mumbled and bit down on my collarbone.

"L-Luke! Keep it in your pants for a bit." I said and finally shoved him off. I sat up and grabbed my phone. Luke laid on his stomach and wrapped his arms around my waist, burying his head in my back. I smiled fondly and called my mum back.

"Mum? What's up?" I asked when she answered.

"A-Ashton?" I heard sniffles and I frowned.

"Mum what's wrong?"

"Oh god Ashton I'm so sorry. Your grandpa..." She let out a sob and my eyes teared up.

"Mum what's going on? What's wrong?" I had tears in my eyes and my voice was shaky.

Luke looked up with concern and rubbed my back. "Your grandpa passed away this morning." She choked out. I dropped my phone and turned to bury my face in Luke's chest.

"Ashton what's wrong?" Luke asked me, rubbing my back but I just let out a sob.

He picked my phone up. "Ann? What's going on?...oh." He looked down at me and started running his hand through my hair as I cried. "I'm so sorry... yeah...ok when?...we'll be there...of course I will...ok bye." He put my phone on the dresser then pulled me down so I could cuddle up to him.

He rubbed my back and gave me a few kisses on the forehead, holding me tight until I had stopped crying, which took a few hours. "I'm so sorry Ashton, and I have no idea what you're going through but I promise I'll be here for you the whole time. I don't know if it helps but...I'm sorry for your loss."

"Let's just not talk about it please?" I asked in a tiny voice.

He gave me a small smile and nodded. "Of course baby. How about we watch a movie? Whatever you wanna watch, your pick." I shrugged my shoulders.

"Can we watch Monsters Inc.?" I asked in a small voice. He chuckled and nodded.

"Of course baby." He got up to put it in then snuggled back onto the bed, I turned to face the tv and he just scooted closer to me so we were spooning. I was obviously the smaller spoon, I just needed any form of comfort for now. His hands rested on my stomach and I gripped them tightly.

He occasionally kissed the back of my neck and I ended up falling asleep but Luke stayed up the whole time, making sure I was okay.

The funeral was something I would never forget. It was 3 weeks after I got the phone call, I cried all day. Luke wouldn't leave my side once. He always was touching me too, an arm around my waist or shoulder, holding my hand, hugging me or the occasional kiss on the shoulder. And I don't think he knew how much he helped me.

Anytime I would start to cry I would bury my face in his chest or shoulder and he would immediately wrap his arms around me and hold me tight, whispering sweet nothings in my ear until I had calmed down enough to come back to reality.

I couldn't even watch as they dropped his casket into the ground. I had my back turned while Luke held me and rubbed my back, kissing my forehead and resting his chin on the top of my head. I was glad he stayed with me all day, even when I went back to my mums after, he stayed the night and cuddled me, calming me down when the nightmares took over.

He would sing to me until I fell back to sleep. I had woken up almost 6 times that night and he was there to lull me back to dreamland each time.

I had never felt so safe and warm, then when I was in my Lukeys arms.
