The next morning, I walked outside and saw Will as I neared the creek. His dark hair stuck up at odd angles, like someone had just ruffled it up a lot and he hadn't bothered to try and fix it. His light grey eyes looked tired but his lips held a smile regardless of how tired he looked.
"Good morning, Will." I said as we fell in step with one another.
"Good morning, Morgana." he replied. We walked over the bridge and entered the forest.
"Have you found anything out yet?" I asked.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him shake his head. "My grandmother absolutely refuses to tell me anything."
"Have you asked your mother about it?"
He shook his head again. "I'm not asking my mother unless I absolutely have to. My mother is the very last option with this situation." he said firmly. He sighed. "Knowing my luck, however, she might find out what I'm doing."
"Would she be angry with you?"
"She would be furious if she found out that I eavesdropped on her conversation. The last time I eavesdropped on a conversation, my brother and I got into quite a lot of trouble."
I laughed quietly. "That's why you shouldn't eavesdrop on people, Will. Especially on your own mother."
"I know, I know. I didn't intend to eavesdrop. I was looking for my sister when it happened and I got curious."
"You have a sister?" I asked. Suddenly, I felt silly; Thomas had told me that Will had a younger sister that seemed to like hiding from him quite a lot.
"Well, technically, she's my adopted sister." I must have looked slightly confused because he started to explain. "Mother found her wandering around in the woods a few years ago. She was lost and she told Mother that her parents were dead so we took her in. I felt so bad for her when Mother brought her home." His eyes turned sad, almost sorrowful. "Anna was so small and even Father couldn't say no to her. Even though she's adopted, Aiden and I treat her like she's our biological sister. I had always wanted a sister when I was growing up and when Anna came home, it was like my wish had come true."
"Do you have a lot of siblings?"
"No, I only have two siblings. There's Anna and then my older brother Aiden." He looked over at me. "Do you have any siblings?"
I shook my head. "No. I've always wanted a brother or a sister, but I've always been an only child."
"I can't imagine growing up without Aiden. He might be a pain sometimes, but that's just how all older brothers are."
"Hey, Will. Hey, Morgana." Thomas said. I realized that we'd reached the pond and I sat in the grass on one side of Thomas while Will sat on the other side.
"Hello, Thomas." I replied.
"Hey, Thomas." Will said.
"Did anyone follow you?" Thomas teased lightly, looking at Will.
Will rolled his eyes. "No, Thomas, I didn't sense anyone following us."
"If you don't mind me asking," I said, "how are you able to sense people, Will?"
"I'm not really sure how to explain it. I can feel vibrations in the ground and I can sense if it's a living creature. It's kind of hard to explain. I can also move pieces of the earth, like rocks and such." Will answered.
"Can everyone in your family do that?" I asked.
"No, they have different abilities. My father can control plants, my brother Aiden can control fire, and my grandmother can control water. My mother and Anna don't have any powers."
