On a calm, clear, May night in the year 1840, the wailing of a baby pierced through the silence that hung in the air. The only ones able to hear her were a couple walking along the creek.

The couple followed the sound of crying until they stumbled upon a small clearing, where the young child was laying in a wicker basket. They approached the basket and upon seeing the couple, the baby quieted.

"Oh, James, we can't just leave her here." the woman said, looking at her husband. "The woods are dangerous and we shouldn't leave her here."

"Katherine, we don't know the first thing about raising a baby." James said quietly. He agreed with his wife, he really did, but what if they couldn't take care of her? There were so many things that could go wrong.

Katherine picked up the baby girl, holding her close to her chest. "James, we can't abandon her. We can't turn around, leave her, and act like this never happened. That isn't right." she said in a soft voice.

Her husband was silent. She was right, of course. They shouldn't abandon a baby that had already most likely been abandoned.

He looked down at the young girl. She looked up at him, her grey eyes wide.

"Alright, Katherine, you're right. We can't just leave her." His wife smiled. "What should we name her?"

Katherine was silent for a moment. She knew what the girl should be called, she just wasn't sure what James would think of it.

Finally, she said, "Morgana." The girl smiled and seemed to giggle at the name, as if she knew that was her name.

James nodded and laid a hand on his wife's shoulder. "Morgana it is." He leaned down and picked up the basket. "We should get home. Morgana is probably tired." They turned and started to walk towards their cottage.
