"Why did you ask me to help you?" Thomas asked after we started walking.
I hesitated for a moment. I wasn't quite sure why I had asked him but I was certain that I wanted him to help me. "I'm not really sure," I said honestly. "Aria and Grandmother asked me if I wanted anyone to help me and you were the first person that I thought of."
"We've done nothing but argue with each other these last couple of days, though. I didn't think that you would want me to help you." I could hear his unspoken words: I didn't think you had forgiven me yet.
I glanced up at him. "I forgive you, Thomas. We're still friends, even though we've been arguing. Of course I want you to help me." There was a beat of silence before I asked, "Why did you agree to help me?"
"I knew that there was a possibility that I would be able to help you. Will and Aiden's powers are vastly different from yours so they probably wouldn't be able to help much. Light elementals are somewhat the opposite of dark elementals, but our powers are similar in a way, so-"
"I thought they were called sunbeams and reapers," I said, confusion lacing my voice.
"Well, they are, but none of the other elementals have a special name so what makes us so special? Besides, I think calling them light and dark elementals fits a little better, don't you?"
Before I had a chance to answer, a deep voice said, "I don't think that they should be called anything." I looked around and sucked in a breath when I saw who had spoken. I stepped back a little so that Thomas was slightly in front of me. Zackary hadn't given me a reason to be scared of him, but after seeing how Travis acted with me and Thomas, I was afraid to see how he would act.
"Zackary," Thomas said. His voice was flat, making it seem like he was indifferent, but I could hear the slight undertone of anger. Dark red started to surround both him and Zackary and I hoped that Thomas wouldn't do anything too rash.
"Thomas," Zackary spat, as if Thomas's name was a poison that sat in his mouth and he needed to get rid of it as soon as he could. His eyes flickered to me. "Morgana." His voice lost the tone of animosity when he said my name.
"What are you doing here?" I saw a flash of light and looked down to see a knife in Thomas's hand but it wasn't like any knife that I'd ever seen. It seemed to be made of light and looked semi-transparent but I could tell that if I were to touch it, it would be a solid object.
Zackary held his hands in front of himself defensively. "I'm not here to fight you." He glanced at me again. "Or Morgana."
"So why are you here?"
"Can you put your knife away first?" Thomas said nothing but his hand tightened around the knife handle. Zackary narrowed his eyes and sighed. "Fine, I suppose the knife stays."
"Why are you here?" Thomas repeated, clearly enunciating each word.
"I'm here to give a message."
"A message to who?" I asked.
He looked at me again but this time, his gaze stayed on me. "To you and the bastard boy."
Thomas made a low growling noise but before he could do anything, I placed a hand on his arm. "What is your message?" I asked, forcing my voice to stay level.
"It's just beginning," he said in a low voice. The corners of his lips pulled up, making a sinister smile appear on his face. A shudder ran down my spine and I felt fear start to prick in the pit of my stomach as I gripped Thomas's arm a little tighter.
"What's just beginning?" Thomas growled.
"You think that you don't have to worry now that you've gotten the Ravencroft boys back but you're wrong." He laughed quietly but it was cold and empty, reminding me of Travis. "This is one fight that you won't win. You can't win."
