10K Imagine

"Another day, another chance to die." It was something I always told Addy, my best friend. She thought I was psychotic, but I wasn't really, I was just another hard-core nerd, and I watched a lot of horror movies, and read a lot of Sci-fi novels. I don't know why Addy was my friend, she was always popular, and had a great boyfriend, who was 10 times better than I could ever be as a friend. I've been single my whole life, well except for the 'boyfriend' I had in grade school. It's been 4 years since the 'z outbreak' otherwise known as the end of the world, Addy has been sad, and I wouldn't blame her, she lost the love of her life. And on top of that, she had to give Mack mercy. Even though I tried to comfort her, me being the only one she would open up to about it, she knew I couldn't help her, I didn't, and still don't understand how it feels to lose the person you want to spend your life with.

I've always had a pretty good shot, I used to go hunting with my dad, pre z of course, but never as good a shot as 10k. After Mack died I saw that Addy had gotten closer to 10k, not that I was jealous, she should have a second chance at love..... I didn't even like him, what am I thinking? He was cool and stuff but no, even if I did, I wouldn't be able to do that to my BEST friend.

"Addy?" I whispered to her, I didn't know if she was asleep but I needed to talk to her
"Yeah Y/n?"
"You're not....." I was thinking of what I was gonna say
"... replacing me with 10k, right?"
It was silent for a minute before she replied
"No, if course not, what makes you think that?"
"Nothing, just wondering.."
"No, Y/n, if something made you think that, which something did, I want you to tell me, I don't want to hurt you."
"It's just, you talk to 10k more than me and we barely talk. I just don't want to lose you." I said, starting to whimper
"Who's crying?"
It was Warren, she probably would've given me the 3rd degree. And "no reason" wouldn't pass by her.
"Um..., it Y/n, I'm sure she doesn't want to talk about it though"
I'd have to remember to thank Addy
"Well if she doesn't want to talk about it she should try to get some sleep"

About a half hour later I called for Addy again
"Addy?"
"Yeah?"
"You don't like 10k like you liked Mack, right?"
"Ew no of course not, he's like a brother... do you like 10k like I liked Mack?"
I stayed quiet for a minute
"No, but you wouldn't know who he likes, if he likes anyone, would you?"
"Gasp you do like him!!" She exclaimed, literally saying 'gasp'
"No, but do you?"
"Nope, beats me"

I stayed silent for maybe an hour and a half, I just couldn't sleep
"Addy?"
No reply, I slightly wobbled over to where she was laying.... I think

I slightly shook her
"Adddddddy?"
"Nope just me" it was 10k, ooops
"Oh god, I'm so sorry I di-"
"It's okay,Y/n ju-" I lost my balance and fell on him, just my luck
"Oh.... um, I hope I'm comfortable..?" Well that makes me feel better...
"Very..." he started laughing.... and ended waking up Addy, who was sleeping next to him.
"I knew you did" she mumbled, gesturing to me sitting on top of 10k, basically straddling him
"What?" I said, basically rolling off 10k
"Nevermind, but could I just PLEASE get some sleep?"
No, don't leave me here in this awkward situation
"Yeah, sure, goodnight"
Why thank you 😒
"Well, again, I'm sorry, and I'm gonna go to sleep" I said standing up, and dusting myself off.
"You didn't walk over here for no reason, did you? Do you wanna talk for a bit?" 10k, I really don't want to talk... about you.... to you....
"Nah I'm good... goodnight"
"Night"

***next day***
"4,243. 4,244" 10k is getting closer to... well... 10 k everyday.

We were all walking through the woods when I was pulled to the side, and a hand over my mouth.
"Do you...... hate me?" Phew okay, it's just 10k
"No, what makes you think that?"
"Well, last night you thought Addy was replacing you with me, and you started crying, and I just felt SO bad an-"
"I don't hate you. Now let's go before they spend the rest of the day searching for us" I said trying to reach his head to ruffle his hair.

We got back to the group and Addy was sitting there looking at her weapon, you know, the.... weapon....Z whacker. And when she looked up she had the HUGEST smirk on her face
"What?" I asked her, assuming she thought the worst
"Aren't you guys gonna hold hands now?" She said doing a kissy face
"What? No?" I was really starting to see how I could relate to this adorable little dork

*a few days later*
"What? No, never" me and Addy were joking around about who we'd kiss in our group and she said I would be cute with Murphy, who seemed like my old friends dad. "Never what?" It was 10k...
Addy already knew I would've kissed 10k
"Um, Y/n and I w-"
"Nothingggg"
"C'mon, we were talking about people in the group we thought were cute and who we'd date/kiss. And y/n here th-"
"Thinks nothing, I do not have a brain, a z ate it" I said, finishing her sentence so that she wouldn't tell him I like him
"Well then" he said kneeling towards me, I was sitting, he was as standing, this isn't a proposal people. And the man-boy I've grown attached to, one of my best friends, kissed me. "4,263. I killed you, I love you."
"Wow, you probably wouldn't have done that unle-"
"Yeah I overheard your conversation" he said scratching the back of his neck
"I knew this was gonna happen"
"Sure you did, Addy" I sighed, laughing

The end, we rode off in the comfort of our vehicle that we got into after Doc came back with edible tree bark and shot z's into the sunset
