"Have you seen him?" Donna asks, hurriedly running over to her son.

"H-he's i-in s-s-surgery." Gerard says, burning through the box of tissues the nurse gave him.

"Did they tell you anything else?" Linda asks, pulling her husband behind her.

"N-n-no." Mikey sits next to his brother, pulling him into a hug.

Gerard cries heavier, thinking back to how Frank always made sure Gerard had a seat before he did. Or how he always made sure he felt safe.

"W-w-what a-am I g-going t-to do i-if he's
d-d-dead?" Gerard whispers, hugging himself.

"You want to shift and take a nap?" Mrs. Iero suggests. "They said it's going to be a long procedure." Gerard sighs and nods. He snuggles into Mikey and shifts. The younger boy swaddles his brother loosely in the Gryffindor scarf Gerard had been wearing.

Gerard walks into Frank's room. Alone.

The pain in his chest has to be his heart shattering into a million fragments, falling in between his rib cage and clanging at his feet.

Frank lyes helpless. A tube runs down his throat and IVs are scattered around his tan skin. His hospital gown covers the contained gore that is his bullet wound. Gerard rushes over, pulling up a chair and sitting next to Frank. He holds the boy's dead hand. A knock sounds at the door and Gerard doesn't know he's crying until he speaks, his voice cracked and tattered.

"Come in." Mikey, Gerard mom, and Frank's parents creep into the small hospital room, staying to the other side of Frank's bed. Away from the shattered boy.

It's been three hours and Gerard still sits, running through coffees Mikey brought him and finding sanctuary in the constant beat of Frank's heart monitor. He's been looking at the same masterpiece for hours, never running board. Exploring the scars and lines in Frank's skin he's already charted.

He knows he should be happy right now, filming a video right away. Dancing with Frank and calling Ray on he plane ride home. But, no. He's stuck here with the constant pain in his side and a coma induced mate.

Gerard sighs, his eyes droopy. The boy stands on the chair he sits on. So, when he shifts his clothes will fall right into it. Gerard closes his eyes, the familiar prickling sensation occurs. When the fertile opens his eyes again, he stand on four legs.

The small animal climbs up the sides of Frank's hospital bed, crawling under a limp hand and curling up. He falls asleep to the sound of his mate's forced breathing.
