      "Nobody's taking him."

Ace seemed shocked that a sweet, innocent Gordie would fire a loaded gun and stand up to his only bully.

"Give me the gun, kid, before you take your foot off," Ace said reaching for the gun. When Gordie didn't say anything or even move a muscle, Ace said "You must have some of your brother's good sense. You wouldn't have the sacks to shoot a woodchuck."

"Get back, Ace. Don't move; I'll kill you I swear to God." This seemed to finally get through to Ace and he stopped walking. I said he stopped walking; he didn't stop becoming the smart-ass he is.

"What are you going to do, kill us all?" Ace asked, arms wide open.

    "No, Ace, just you."

Ace gulped. The rest of us were dead silent, and Gordie was pointing the gun right at Ace's head, who was about ten feet away. We all held our breath in anticipation, waiting for his reaction.

"We'll get you for this," Ace said, pointing the blade at us and walking away. Once he was gone, I patted Gordie on the back.

"Ya know, Gordo, if you don't make it in the writing business, maybe you can become a superhero," I said. Gordie rolled his eyes and chuckled.

It was later decided that a anonymous call would be the best thing to do with the body.

We walked home in silence, once or twice talking about what had happened. Chris and I walked hand-in-hand, and lets just say I was the happiest 12 year old out there. We stopped for the night in the same place we had before and again, took watch for a couple of hours. Chris and I did our shifts together, talking about random things. We slowly got pulled into a comfortable silence, my head on his shoulder and his arms wrapped tightly around me. His hand soon cupped my chin and in a moment I was looking up at him, getting lost in his bright blue eyes. Before I could realize what I was doing, we where both leaning in, and our lips connected. I felt a wave of excitement roll over my body. We pulled apart, and my head went back on his shoulder and his hands tightly around me. Once again, I fell asleep with a smile on my face.

The morning walk was silent and empty tension was in the air. Chris and I hadn't spoken since the kiss last night and right now, I wasn't even walking with him.

"You've got to talk to him, Lauren," Gordie said.

    "I know, I know."

    "Well go on then."

Chris was walking in front of everyone, so I picked up my pace and caught up with him. I gently slipped my hand into his and he looked over at me and smiled.

"I think we should talk about last night," I said.

    "What's there to talk about?"

"Well we both had our first kiss."

    "And?"

"Should I be expecting more of it?"

"I guess so," Chris said, kissing me on the cheek.

    And that was that.

Chris did enroll into the college courses with Gordie and I. He was struggling at first, but Chris wasn't the one to give up, and he didn't.

Chris became a lawyer and my husband. We dated throughout junior high and high school, and went to law school together. We got married in 1973 and three years later, we had twins. A boy named Alexander Gordon Chambers and a girl named Elizabeth Fay Chambers. In 1983, Chris walked into a fast food restaurant where a fight was broken out. One of them had a knife. Chris, who always tried to make the best peace, tried to break it up. He was stabbed in the throat. He died almost instantly.

I saw the rest of the gang at his funeral. Even though I hadn't seen the gang in about 15 years, we acted as though we had.

People still ask me if I'll ever marry again. And every time I'll decline, saying I'll never love again. I'll never forget that summer of '59, and I'll never forget Chris. Every time I look back on that summer, I realize more and more of how we all Stand Together. And I always know I'll never find love, because no man will ever come close to Christopher Chambers.

My Christopher Chambers.

So that is the end of this fanfic. I hoped y'all enjoyed! I know I said I was going to write a sequel, but I'm not anymore. I also know that I said I was going to update more, I've just been waaayyy busier than I thought I was going to be. I really loved making this story and I had a great time. Love you all!
